Honest Burger first opened their doors in Brixton Village in 2011, so of course we had to choose this restaurant to visit and write a review about.

We love the fact that the first ever restaurant still exists they never set out to open an American diner. They just wanted to make burgers you could eat at a farmers’ market, in wellies, in the rain and that is exactly what we did when storm Dennis hit the UK last weekend.

Honest burger always wanted to make the best British burger in order to do this they spent time with lots of British butchers in London. They are now a butcher’s themselves and make delicious burgers, their way from scratch. They season the burgers with salt and pepper and believe this is all you need if you have good quality meat. The seasoning takes place during the cooking process as if you add salt too early it causes the meat to go rubbery (learn something new every day)!

We visited Honest Burger this time round to try their plant-based burger, like we always say we are not plant based ourselves but we are always on the hunt to find the best plant based foods around. The plant-based burger is served with vegan smoked Gouda, rubies in the rubble Chipotle ‘Mayo’, mustard, red onion, pickles and lettuce.

If I am 100% honest with you (which we always are) I absolutely loved the plant-based burger, if I didn’t know I wouldn’t have guessed I was eating a plant-based meal as it tasted just like beef! The burger was super juicy and almost looked like it was ‘bleeding’, the texture was on point, it was not rubbery at all.

As silly as this sounds it didn’t even cross my mind that the cheese was vegan until I started to write out what was in the burger, which in my eyes is great as vegan cheese doesn’t always taste that great! If you don’t like raw onions, then I would ask for the onions to be removed as it did some with a fare few!

The plant-based burger was served with the homemade rosemary salted chip like all of their burgers on the menu. Honest Burger have always served their burgers with chips as the wanted everyone to try them. The chips are not frozen, they are fresh and they get the potatoes from a farmer who has grown them for generations!

We also ordered a couple of sides the first side was a white cabbage, kohlrabi, carrot and pumpkin seed slaw and the second side was a little gem, rocket, fennel and radish salad! Both of which was very flavoursome and nice to have some greens on the side!

To drink we tried their homemade lemonade which was delicious and so so refreshing! We also got a Coke Zero and they happily provided us some tap water.

Overall we were exceptionally impressed with the Plant burger at Honest and I would 100% order it again! So if you are vegan or you just fancy a vegan burger then make sure you head down to Honest Burger!
