Recently we have been staying away in hotels for a work much more frequently and thought it was only right to write a work trips hotel hacks blog post. When you are working away from home there is nothing worse than not feeling comfortable and not getting a good nights sleep especially if you are staying there all week.
Take your own pillow- we always struggle to sleep places where we don’t have our own pillow, it may sound mad taking your own pillow with you but if you are fussy with pillows that it is a great idea. Staying away from home for a week with a pillow that isn’t like your usual one can be hell.
Ear plugs- Hotels can be noisy especially if you have people staying in the rooms above you (honestly it sometimes sounds like we have had a heard of elephants in the room above)! Often hotels can be on busy main road which means if you open your window for a bit of fresh air you are likely to hear traffic all night so pack a pair of earplugs in case.
Book the breakfast but not the evening meal- we always book the breakfast at the hotel because we love hotel breakfasts but we often opt out of the evening meal. It’s nice to try new places for dinner when you have a bit more time in the evenings so we would suggest not pre booking the evening meal otherwise you could end up with a Toby Carvery for the rest of the week (not that there is anything wrong with that if you love a roast).
Don’t pay for Wi-Fi- you may have to pay for Wi-Fi in some hotels but often the Wi-Fi will be free or they have an option for you to pay to use the upgraded version (especially in the premier inn). The free Wi-Fi is usually find we especially find the free Wi-Fi in the premier inn to be great so definitely don’t feel like you have to pay. Maybe test out the free Wi-Fi and if it’s not great then maybe pay the dollar if necessary.
Take short pyjamas- what is it with hotel rooms being so dam hot! We always feel the cold usually but whenever we stay in a hotel it feels like we are waking up after taking a nap on the sun lounger on holiday, blooming hot!
