The Sipping Room In Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf at the weekend is so fantastic because its like a different world. During the week its full of all those business men and women who all probably work in finance and is so busy and non-stop. However at the weekend all these people are probs chilling on their yacht on the Thames in Marlow or enjoying a country break in the Cotswolds…… this means its nice and quiet at the weekend and the perfect place to go for food.

We think Canary Wharf looks a bit futureistic, even the train station is pretty cool and then as you come out the station all those sky rise office buildings with floor to ceiling glass. There are lots of eateries here and also lots of shops too!

The Sipping Room was our brunch spot of choice, it is located in West India Quay which is just a 5 minute walk from Canary Wharf station. The Sipping Room is a Drake and Morgan restaurant and from what we can tell it seems they offer a standard brunch menu across all their restaurants/bars.

It was mid-October on a beautiful autumn day, the sun had definitely decided to put its hat on that day!! We asked to sit outside to make the most of the glorious weather and that was no trouble at all!

There is lots to choose from on the brunch menu (which is available at the weekend from 11am – 4pm) and its very varied so everyone will be happy! There is the all day breakfast menu which includes items such as pancakes, avocado on sourdough, full works, veggie works and eggs Benedict.

There are also plates to start or share which include burrata and a meze board. For brunch you could also choose a burger or a dish from the grill. See what we mean, lots to choose from! There is also a breakfast menu (which includes boiled eggs and soldiers!) and an all day menu which includes pies!

Anyway back to what we actually ate! As it was brunch time and we hadn’t had breakfast as we had been at a gym class we opted for the brunch menu and also just because we love brunch!

Rach went for the buttermilk chicken and waffle as she has never had it before and was intrigued to see how the elements all worked together. This was served with a waffle, topped with avocado and then a buttermilk chicken breast with chilli maple syrup. The combination worked so well together, and the size of the chicken was very very generous! As I love avocado I wish there was more avocado on it!

Annie went for the avocado on sourdough but changed the poached egg for scrambled egg. The staff were more than happy to make this change which was nice! It was really tasty and the portion size was great, sourdough bread would have been better than just a slice of white but you can’t have it all!

We then enjoyed our brunch with a juice each, Rach went for sweet greens (kiwi, pineapple, cucumber, orange) which was really refreshing, we would definitely recommend!

Annie went for for L’Orange (orange, mango, avocado), I had never tried avocado in a smoothie before so I was really intrigued! It made the smoothie really creamy and the orange and mango overpowered the flavour of the avocado. Both were refreshing and delicious and made us feel all summery in the lovely sunshine.

We popped inside as this is where the toilets were located. We loved the decor of the inside there were faux fur blankets over most of the chairs and it looked like a little winter wonderland!

The bar was located at the front of the restaurant, just as you walked in the door. The staff were all incredibly friends at The Sipping Room and answered any questions we had

The toilets were very clean and there were plenty of cubicles, we love the fact Drake & Morgan have sweets in the rest rooms! This time they had a huge pot of quality streets, they really are getting into the festive spirit!

We would definitely recommend visiting! The Christmas menu looked delicious and we already have our eyes on it!

Hatch Brunch Review St. Albans

Last weekend it was a rainy and miserable Saturday and so we decided the only way to spend the day was eating yummy food! We didn’t want to go too far so headed to St Albans which is a local city to us (yes it’s a city because it has a cathedral but it’s not a super big place! It’s actually so cute with cobbled streets and all!).

Hatch on the go opened its doors 8 years ago as a small takeaway place and it was doing so well that the owner decided to open an establishment in the centre of St Albans and called it you guessed it… Hatch! Hatch is located on Holywell Hill and has been open since February 2017.

Hatch has completely taken off and we can totally see why! We had a cheeky browse of the menu online before we visited and we already knew we were going to be spoilt for choice!

We arrived at Hatch at 3:45pm, they are open from 9-5 every day so we had just over an hour and 15 minutes. Upon arriving Liam the restaurant manager introduced himself and showed us to our table.

The restaurant was still heaving at 3:45pm and the atmosphere was buzzing. There were a variety of customers in Hatch (families, couples and groups of friends enjoying prosecco to give a few examples). It was nice to see such a variety of people in one place having a good time.

Liam was incredible and his service was impeccable you can really show he loves his job and the restaurant. This is such an important part of any restaurant and we feel plays a huge part in the success of a restaurant. Customer service is so important these days and more so with the internet and trip advisor, we cannot rave enough about the service here. We know we love a place when we don’t stop talking about it not only to each other but to our friends and family too!

There was so much to choose from on the menu we didn’t know where to begin. However in usual Two Brits way we decided to share everything so we could try more food! Always share because then you don’t get food envy!

We even shared our drinks, we opted for the juice of the day which was carrot, orange and ginger. It was served in a cute little bottle with paper straw. The second drink we chose was chocolate and caramel cooler which is chocolate milk over ice, caramel syrup and cream! It was so delicious but also incredibly sweet so if you aren’t looking for something super sweet this drink probably isn’t for you! We loved it though!

Liam very kindly saved us their sweet corn fritters which were the special of the day and had sold out by 11am! So if you want to enjoy their specials you have to get their early!

The fritters were delicious, they were sandwiched with slices of avocado and chilli jam, topped with chorizo and a perfectly poached egg. The eggs are sourced locally and oh my gosh the yolk was so orange!

We also had the hash brown bites on the side, these are their most popular item on the menu and are the perfect accompaniment. Little hash browns served with a yummy BBQ dip, ideal to share!

We then decided to share a waffle and there were lots to choose from it was hard to decide but we went for the honeycomb one. The waffle batter is made fresh every morning and it tasted amazing! The waffle was topped with crunchie pieces, raspberries, butterscotch sauce and a large scoop of ice cream- DELICIOUS!

To end the meal we enjoyed a hot drink; peppermint tea and a latte (with very pretty latte art and very photographic!).

We loved the interior of Hatch, it was simple but effective. The brick wall made for good photos and we loved all the slogans and tempting messages written on chalk boards hanging off the lights.

It was nice that you could see the staff at work behind the counter, we love that in any place we visit!

Hatch also so private events, you can hire the place out every day of the week once they have closed. They can offer both a sit down meal or a party for up to 60 people.

We cannot recommend Hatch enough and we will definitely be going back soon!

Harissa Lamb Waffles with Krombacher Beer

We jumped at the chance of taking part in the Krombacher Beer and food pairfection campaign, we love trying new beers and we especially love developing recipes. Brunch is our favourite meal to eat and it’s even better with an alcoholic beverage! We love the fact you can eat brunch at any time of the day so we wanted to create a recipe that would be perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The dish we have created is Harissa Lamb Waffles and they taste absolutely delicious if we do say so ourselves, especially when matched with a cold Krombacher Pils- for us it’s #pairfection. We have made sweet waffles and protein waffles several times before but this was our first time trying to make savory waffles. We wanted the batter to have flavour and we didn’t just want them to be a standard waffle recipe so we threw a few spices in the mixture.

Krombacher Pils also knows as ‘A Pearl of Nature’ is one of Europe’s leading beers and we can totally see why. The taste of Krombacher Pils is very distinctive and the water it is brewed with plays a massive part in the flavour giving it a full flavoured apple Manhattan is some what bitter.

We got a thumbs up from our boyfriends as well as our dads they all absolutely loved it! It was great to have a little tasting session going on with them all and they all said it was very refreshing and light.

Recipe for Harissa Lamb Waffles- You will need a waffle maker

Waffle Ingredients
125g Plain Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
½ Tbsp Caster Sugar
1tsp Mustard Powder
½ tsp Smoked Paprika
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
215ml Semi Skimmed Milk
2 Eggs

Harissa Lamb Ingredients
1 tbsp Olive Oil
250g Lamb Mince
2 tbsp Harissa Paste
2 tbsp Tomato Puree
½ tsp Black Pepper
½ Aubergine chopped into small pieces
½ red onion finely chopped
250ml chicken stock
150g feta
Handful Parsley finely chopped

Method

Heat the oil in a large frying pan over a high heat. Add the lamb and cook for 5-6 minutes until brown. Add the onion and aubergine and allow the mixture to cook for 3 minutes before adding the harissa paste, tomato purée and black pepper, stir the ingredients until well combined and coin for a further 1-2 minutes.

Add the stock to the mixture (it will look slightly runny), place the lid on the pan and cook until the liquid has reduced- we left it cooking for around 15 minutes. In the mean time we go started on the waffles.

Place all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix until well combined

Put the butter in a saucepan on a low heat and remove from the heat once melted

Whisk the butter, eggs and milk in a separate mixing bowl

Make a well in the dry picture and poor the wet mixture into it, whisk the mixture until fully blended together and there are no lumps

Leave the batter to rest for until you need it

Turn your waffle maker on and allow it to heat up, once heated (the green light should show) pour in the mixture, close the lid and cook

Once the waffles have cooked and the lamb it is time to assemble the dish, place your waffles onto a plate and pour the mixture on top. Sprinkle with feta and parsley, open up your Krombacher Pils and voila you are ready to tuck in!

Everyone cares about their body, and if they don’t then they should! How our body is functioning on inside is far more important that what it looks like on the outside! Of course you can work hard at the gym to help improve your overall health, but there might actually be some parts of your lifestyle that are impacting your bodily health and fitness.

SLEEP
Sleep is one of the most important parts for not only your physical health but your mental health as well. Not having enough sleep night after night isn’t a healthy way to live and there is only so much coffee that is gonna help! Digestion, growth, and even weight loss are just a handful of the areas which a lack of sleep can damage. Try putting your phone down before you go to bed to help you get little bit more sleep.

STRESS
No one wants to be stressed and there are some things in life that can cause a little bit of stress, maybe it’s your job or your finances. You might not think it at the time but the cause of stress is something you can have control of! Recognise what is making life hard and make changes where possible!

HYDRATION
Everyone knows how important it is to stay hydrated! Try and drink water throughout the day and only having fizzy drinks and fruit juices in between.

DIET
Your diet is also another important factor to ensuring you live a healthy lifestyle. There are so many tried and tested diets out there which yes some have proven to be successful, but we believe in eating a well balanced diet instead of going on a diet. If you are regularly going to the gym make sure you fuel yourself with the correct type of foods to ensure you have a fabulous workout!

There are a lot of substances which are becoming a normal part of human life, nowadays. Coffee, nicotine, and loads of other chemicals are used to make life feel just a little bit better, and this often isn’t too big of a problem (we love coffee). It can be very easy to set yourself back when you’re trying to improve your fitness. This part of life can be hard- remember not to deprive yourself of things you like because this will only result in bad habits resurfacing, enjoy things in moderation.

Sarona Eatery Review

Sarona Eatery is a new Middle Eastern restaurant which opened its doors in May 2018 in Clerkenwell. Sarona Eatery is inspired by the street food of Tel-Aviv to the streets of East London, they serve Tel Aviv classics but have also added an East London Twist.

Sarona Eatery is located on Clerkenwell Road with the nearest tube station being Farringdon (a 5 minute walk away). The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday-Friday7:30AM-23:00PM and also opens on a Saturday for Shabbat Brunch from 11:00AM-22:00PM.

The founders wanted to create a restaurant that enabled people to come together and eat good Israeli food and we think the restaurant has really hit the nail on the head.

Everything on the menu is homemade in the Sarona Kitchen which we absolutely loved as you know the food you are being served is fresh and has been made with love. The menu was designed with sharing in mind which is exactly what we did when we visited one Saturday afternoon.

Upon arriving at the restaurant we were greeted by the waitress who took us to the table that had been reserved for us, the table was inside and due to it being a lovely sunny day we asked if we were able to sit outside which she said wasn’t a problem at all. There were several tables outside that we can imagine are packed during the week. The city is always much quieter at the weekends so we were lucky to have the outside seating area to ourselves.

We asked the waitress and manager for their suggestions to ensure we were able to try a selection of dishes. We are not fussy eaters (we are up for trying anything) so we suggested they surprise us with the dishes. We do this quite frequently when we are visiting restaurants and we haven’t had a bad recommendation as of yet.

To start we both ordered a glass of wine Rachel went for the house rose and Annie went for the house Sauvignon Blanc. Both were delicious and the perfect drinks to enjoy with our feast!

The menu consisted of three sections the first one being the ‘dipping and ripping’ section! We were served Handmade Sarona Humus which consisted of Tahini sauce, chickpeas, schug and olive oil served with pita bread. If you love hummus then we would definitely recommend this dish it was so tasty, if you are wondering what schug is like we were it is an Israeli hot sauce it wasn’t that spicy though so don’t let this put you off.

We also tried the Chopped Grilled Aubergine with fresh mint and pomegranate rubies, this reminded us of baba ganoush and we especially liked the pomegranate and mint flavours as they really gave the dish a little bit of extra flavour. This is the perfect dish to share with friends and it is also served with pita bread on the side.

There were lots of dishes on the small plates section of the menu that took our fancy especially the Crispy Cauliflower with tahini sauce, amba sauce and roasted almonds which we were served and absolutely love. We are mad for tahini so knew we were going to love this dish, the amba sauce is a popular Middle Eastern picked mango condiment which was also really tasty. This was definitely one of our favourite dishes we tried at Sarona so we would 100% recommend you ordering it.

The Spiced lamb kofta with cucumber, spring onion, mint and sour cream was also another favourite of ours and a dish we would definitely order again. This dish was served with 2 lamb koftas which were generous in size and they were really generous with the salad. This would be the perfect dish if you wanted to enjoy your own starter without sharing.

When we say we had a feast we really did mean it, the final section of the menu is called ‘big plates’ and this is the main dishes although as we were sharing everything we had all the dishes arrive as and when they are cooked which we really enjoyed.

The All Day Shakshuka is a hawayej roast lamb shoulder that is cooked for 14 hours before being added to slow cooked cherry tomatoes and free-range eggs served with grilled sourdough bread. This was quite a rich dish with lots of delicious flavours, but the lamb was so tender and cooked to perfection. We especially loved the bread that was served on the side it was a brioche based bread that was sweet and complimented the shakahuka perfectly.

The Chermoula marinated Bavette Steak is a 45 day old Hereford Bavette served on green bean, fennel and pomegranate salad, if we are hones this was probably our least favourite dish it was still tasty and the flavours were delicious but we just found it to be a little chewy.

The Spiced Tune Steak is a chargrilled schug spiced yellow fin tuna with caramelised lime and oh my this was just incredible. We cannot recommend the tuna steak enough, we had it cooked rare which we are glad about as it was so flavoursome and we loved the schug spice sauce.

As you can imagine we were stuffed after this, so full that we couldn’t even order a dessert to try. The dessert did sound delicious though there was a choice of apple, plum and organs blossom strudel, home baked rogelach and a gluten free dark chocolate brownie.

The toilets were also immaculate and decor was beautiful. We especially loved the pink velvet round sofa in the hallway of the toilets- we would quite like one of them for ourselves!

We absolutely loved our afternoon at Sarona Eatery, the staff we fab and were so attentive making sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our time. We cannot recommend this restaurant enough and we will definitely we returning with a larger group so we can share the love!

Darwin Brasserie Brunch Review

Darwin Brasserie is located in the walkie talkie building in the city of London. The restaurant is on the 36th floor (same as the sky garden).

Upon arrival we had to go through security before getting in the lift and going up to the 35th floor which is where the viewing platform is located. We then got back in the lift and got out on the 36th floor before entering the Darwin Brasserie.

Now before we start our review we are going to say that almost everything possible went wrong whilst we were there it was actually quite commical. The manager (whose name we didnt catch) was incredible and completly turned it around making sure we enjoyed our time at the Brasserie. His service and attitude was incredible and we cant thank him enough for turning everything around and basically saving Rachels surprise birthday breakfast.

We had booked a table at 9:30AM for Breakfast which we were really looking forward to as we had heard good things. When we phoned the restaurant to book and we wanted re assurance that we would have enough time if we arrived at 9:30AM as breakfast stopped at 10:30. We were told by the gentleman on the phone that it would be plenty of time we just needed to make sure we had ordered our hot breakfast by 9:45AM.

We were shown to our table and the waitress told us that we would have to be finished by 10:00AM as that is when breakfast is cleared away. We were surprised as this wasn’t what we were told previously on the phone. She said we could ‘pile up’ our plates before 10 o’clock as we had the table until 10:30AM. Had we of known we would have booked the table for 9:00AM.

As for piling up our plates it wasn’t really the kind of dining we were looking forward to! 😂 plus half of the food had already run out!

The continental part was cleared away at 9:58AM to which the manager came over and apologised and said he would remove the continental part off of the bill- which was incredibly kind of him.

We ordered our breakfast Annie had the smoked Salmon, scrambled egg on Rye Bread which also came with half a grilled beef tomato. It was really tasty the scrambled egg was the perfect consistency and the portion size of the smoked salmon was generous.

Rach went for the Panacakes with Caramalised bananas and Chocolate sauce (which she asked to be removed as she doesnt like Nutella). When the pancakes arrived the plate was sprinkled in hazelnuts, so we asked if they could be removed. The pancakes returned and they had freshly prepared a new batch that were extra fluffy! The manager also gave Rach some berries and a jug of maple syrpup to say sorry for the mix up. The pancakes were so delicious and very cake like we would definitely reccomend if you visit Darwin Brasserie.

We were still at the table gone 10:30AM and the manager surpised us each with a glass of Prosecco to say sorry for the inconvinience that had been caused. It didn’t have to do that and it was a lovely gesture- there were smiles all round.

When I booked Darwin Brasserie I was asked if we were celebrating an occassion as they would bring something out as a surprise at the end. I had completly forgotten about this so it was a nice suprise when that arrived for Rachel.

The ultimate brunch is £25.50 which includes the continental buffett and an item off of the menu. You can opt for the continental breakfast only which is priced at £16.95.

There was a great atmosphere in the Brasserie, and the view was incredible! Eating breakfast and looking out at London isn’t something we do everyday so that sure was amazing.

As we were leaving we noticed the staff had already started laying out the brunch which by the way looked INCREDIBLE! Especially the desserts!

We would definitely recommend visiting but just make sure you book earlier enough to give yourself enough time!

39 Steps Coffee Haus Review

39 Steps Coffee Haus is located in the heart Soho and the second branch is opening soon in Knightsbridge which we will have to visit.

The reason it is called 39 steps is because it takes exactly 39 steps from the bean on the bush to the cup in your hand! We thought this was really cool and have since read up on it, which you can also do if you are interested over on their website.

We visited at lunch time one Saturday and the coffee haus was heaving (in a good way). This sure was a sign that the coffee and food they served was good! You cannot book a table, you just have to walk in and see if there is one available.

It isn’t very big inside and there are two main tables in the middle that sit four and around the edge of the venue there are bar stalls which we opted to sit at. There are also a few smaller tables available as well. We chose the seats by the window so we could watch the world go by!

Upon sitting down as looked at the drinks menu as we had been told the cold press juices where to die for and we can indeed confirm they are DELICIOUS!

We decided to opt for two different juices/smoothies so we could try a couple of the flavours. The first cold press juice we chose was watermelon based and was delightfully refreshing and the perfect drink to enjoy on a warms summers day, which indeed it was.

We also ordered a smoothie which consisted of banana, mint and lots of other flavours it was the perfect consistency and the flavours really complimented each other. The juices come in 250ml bottles so they are perfect to take away or like us you can enjoy them in a glass with some ice.

Rachel ordered an iced latte with almond milk and Annie had an iced americano with a dash of soya milk. The coffee was incredible, it wasn’t to bitter which we loved but still nice and strong. We did also spot the cold coffee freakshake which we are intrigued to try so we will definitely have to visit again!

When we first walked into 39 Steps we noticed the pancakes and knew immediately that we would be ordering a stack. We ordered the peach jam pancakes to share which were served with whipped cream, fairtrade bananas and honey. We are glad we shared the pancakes because they were absolutely HUGE but oh my SO dam delicious! They only cost £9 which we think is a bargain considering the portion size, we will be dreaming about these pancakes for a while!

Upon leaving the manager asked us if we wanted to take away a couple of the cakes or muffins they had on display at the front counter. We opted for the vegan banana bread and a blueberry muffin. The vegan banana bread was really tasty and very moist which we like our banana bread to be! The blueberry muffin was huge and was bursting with fresh blueberries and was texture was light and fluffy so overall a very tasty muffin.

They had lots of sandwiches and cakes on display by the counter which we thought was a great idea especially for customers that are taking away! The juices are also at the counter stores in crushed ice.

39 Steps Coffee Haus gets a massive thumbs up from us! Everything from the service to the food and the drinks were incredible. We couldn’t recommend visiting this little establishment enough it filled us with joy and left us feeling very content.

Staying Healthy And Fit During Your Summer Travels

More and more of us are getting ready for our summer holidays wooohooo! From short-haul to Europe (Annie is off to Spain and Rhodes), to longer haul (Rachel is off to Canada)! Regardless of where you are going you have probably already thought about packing It’s definitely something you either love or hate!

Does anyone else find that whenever they stop and finally rest they get ill? We always do and it totally sucks! Although in summer there are fewer bugs around to catch, you can still get ill in summer, especially in a new country where you’re trying new foods or have a body clock that is all over the place. So here are some of the best ways that you can stay well on your travels this summer.

Hydrate

This is going to be one of the most important points for your summer travels. Temperatures are hotting up, and you’ll be losing a lot of water through sweat when you’re away.

If you decide to go on a boat trip or spend time by the sea you are likely to not feel as hot, as the breeze will cool you. But you will still be losing water. So you need to be drinking at least two liters of water a day, if not more. It can be tricky in some countries to do so, as you can’t drink the tap water. So stock up at local supermarkets with some bottled water. A cost-efficient way of doing it is taking your own reusable water bottle, and then fill it up each day from a large bottle of water bought from a store. Plus, places like hotel gyms have bottled water that you can decant and fill up your own bottle with.

Avoid Jet Lag

If you have jet lag, then it means that you can be sleeping at unusual hours, not getting enough sleep, or just generally feeling unwell. While this is more common when flying long-haul, it can happen any time. One of the best pieces of advice to avoid jet lag is to try to get on the new country’s time, as soon as you get on the plane. If you’re going to be landing somewhere and it will be daytime, then you need to sleep as much as you can on the plane, so that you can stay awake when you get there.

Exercise

Some holidays are going to be pretty active ones (think hiking trips or city breaks). So you’re less likely to need to exercise formally on those kinds of trip. But going off to the beach for two weeks means that you may decide to keep active by going for a run or visiting the hotel gym. We sometimes like to research gyms in the local area as well. It’s not that you have to exercise when on holiday and don’t think you do we just like to it helps us keep sane and also means we can enjoy one of two more cocktails than normal.

Watch What You Eat

This actually doesn’t have anything to do with calorie intake or anything like that, but more about how the foods are prepared and if they will be good for you. Even something like a salad, that has been washed in tap water, can make you sick. So you need to check things like that. It can also be a good idea to avoid certain things on street food carts, especially if you can’t check how it has been prepared. You want to reduce the chance of you getting sick from something you’ve eaten, and avoid getting anything like Delhi-Belly.

Sunscreen

It can be easy to forget about sunscreen and go wild by the pool in the hopes of getting a tan. And while the long-term effects of sun damage aren’t going to have an impact immediately, there are some side-effects that will. You can get sore, cracked, or broken skin, as well as something like sunstroke. That can leave you feeling nauseous, lethargic, high temperature, and in a lot of pain. So it really is simple; wear sunscreen, and keep applying it often.

Relax

Taking some time out when you’re on holiday can be just what you need to unwind and relax. And while you’re taking a break from some of the stressors of every day and your normal routine, holidays can still feel a little full on. So look for ways to help you to be more mindful. This could be meditation, writing in a journal, doing some exercise like yoga, or taking yourself off for a spa treatment. Time out gives you time to de-stress and to relax.

The Locals

The local’s café is a healthy eating inspired café located in Grosvenor Waterside, Chelsea. It is a 12 minute Walk away from Sloane Station and a 15 minute walk to Victoria Station. The Locals serves breakfast until 5pm every day because they believe whenever you start your day you have to start it with a proper one. They have a separate brunch menu for the weekend.

The Locals café is slightly hidden and out of the way which we didn’t realise before visiting, this actually worked in our favour as it meant there wasn’t a ton of people waiting to have brunch. We were a little worried if we wouldn’t get a table as you are not able to reserve at the locals instead they work on a walk in basis. We arrived at about 10:45 and had no problem getting a table, the café was still buzzing and had a good atmosphere it just wasn’t overcrowded which was fab.

We ordered our drinks first, I went for an almond milk flat white and my sister had a ginger shot as she was suffering with a bit of a cold. The flat white was delicious with the perfect coffee to milk ratio, the Ginger shot was hella spicy and I only tried a tiny bit. The staff were really polite and helpful and didn’t mind waiting for us to decide what to order.

The waiter recommended the Matcha pancakes (£10.50) and suggested we got them if we had room for dessert, we didn’t this time but after seeing them we are definitely going to have to return to try them. The Gluten Free Granola in a jar also looked really delicious.

I ordered the Free Range Scrambled Eggs with a side of Smoked Salmon (£4.50) on sourdough toast which was so tasty. You could choose between 2 (£7) or 3 eggs (£9) and I went for the 2 eggs which I am glad I did as the portion was huge, they were also really generous with the smoked salmon as well.

My sister chose the Skinny Eggs Florentine (£10.50) which consisted of homemade skinny hollandaise with wilted spinach that was served on top of a brioche bun. The presentation of the brunch was really spectacular and reminded us of an erupting volcano.

We fell in love with the crockery at The Locals Cafe, we love an Instagrammable mug and plate and they certainly were here so we were snapping away making sure we got some good content. Seriously though how annoying is it when you go somewhere for brunch and the crockery is just so plane and boring! Only us?  They also provided us with a jug of water on the table which had a cute label on saying the Locals.

We loved the décor of The Locals, there was a plant feature wall in the middle of the café that was really pretty and it made us feel like we were sat in a green house.

We noticed there were quite a meetings happening in the café (on a Saturday morning) and there were also lots of individuals working away on their laptops.

We will definitely be visiting The Locals again, the food was great and so was the price tag! All round a great spot for brunch!

Jazz Apples Overnight Oats

We love oats they are our go to breakfast almost every day, they keep us fuller for longer and they are so versatile so we never get bored.

In the winter we love a warming bowl of porridge whereas in the summer we always reach for overnight oats.

We love overnight oats they are delicious and super convenient as you can make them the night before in a jam jar and take them with you to work you the next day. We especially love adding fruit into our oats during the summer months and Jazz apples seemed like the perfect choice.

Jazz Apples were our Apples of choice, if you haven’t heard of Jazz apples before they are a funky fusion of a Braeburn and a Royal Gala, they are tangy-sweet and refreshingly crunchy. The great thing about Jazz apples is that they have a fruit bowl life of up to four weeks.

You can find our delicious overnight oats recipe below which we have enjoyed on several occasions either outside in the sunshine whilst having a summer breakfast picnic or when we need a quick and easy breakfast during the week which we can enjoy dining al desko.

Ingredients (serves 2)
80g oats
100ml milk (we used soya milk)
150g Greek Yoghurt
1.5 tsp Cinnamon
1tbsp Maple Syrup
1 Grated Apple
1 Sliced Apple

Method

Grate the apple into a medium sized mixing bowl

Add the oats, milk, yoghurt, Cinnamon & Maple Syrup and mix with a wooden spoon until well combined

Leave to sit on the side and slice the 2nd Apple

Place 2 slices at the bottom of each Jam jar and top with a table spoon of oats- continue to do this until your jam jar is full.

Chop two of the slices up and use as a topping as well as a sprinkle of cinnamon

Put the lid on the jam jar and put them in the fridge overnight or for a couple of hours

When you are ready to eat remove from the fridge and enjoy!
