Just PB protein shake

We love a protein shake after working out, during the weeks we usually mix our protein with water and chug it whilst running out of the gym and making our way to work. When we actually get the chance to make a delicious protein shake we jump at the chance because let’s be honest it tastes WAY better.

Annie loves nut butter so always opts for a shake that has NB in it! So we thought it was about time we created our own PB protein shake (we will be sharing more recipes soon). This protein shake is SO simple to make and is always Annie’s go to shake at the weekend.

PB

Ingredients
1 banana
1 scoop white chocolate protein
1tsp peanut butter
Ice cubes we usually use about 4
50ml Almond milk

Method
Wack everything into a blender we use a Nutri Bullett and blend for a minute
Pour into a glass with a straw
Optional you can pop a strawberries on the side and enjoy!
See we said it was the quickest recipe ever!

Healthy eating on a budget

Healthy eating 3.png

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t have to shop in Whole Foods and you certainly don’t have to spend more money. So many people think convenient fast foods are cheaper than fresh wholesome foods.  We want to put this myth to bed and help people maintain a healthy diet whilst eating on a budget.

If you have any other tips and tricks then please share them with us!

healthy eating 1

Buy in Bulk- We would suggest purchasing your food in bulk for example buying bigger bags of rice, oats and pasta will be cheaper and these are as good go to staples to have in the cupboard.  You should also think about purchasing your meat in bulk there are several established websites that sell meat such as Muscle Foods.  Compare pre packed fruit and veg to loose fruit and veg. Check the price per kg some brands will make loose more expensive where as others will bump the prices up on pre packed goods as its more convenient.

Cook in bulk and from fresh- If you don’t enjoy cooking and it feels like a chore this is probably the last thing you are going to want to spend your evening doing. It will definitely be worth it and your bank balance will thank you for it. If you cook in bulk then you can freeze meals or eat them the next day for lunch or dinner, that way it will limit your cooking time in the long run.

Limit eating out/ ordering take away – Eating out can be expensive, why not eat out when you are celebrating something or as a treat when you want to catch up with family or friends. Don’t just eat out because you cannot be bothered to cook or wash up the dinner plates. Eating out is not only expensive it is likely you will end up eating a less nutritional meal.

Buy frozen fruit- We love purchasing frozen fruit and Tesco have recently introduced single fruit bags e.g. kiwi or mango. These are so much cheaper than fresh fruit and have a longer sell by date. We like having frozen fruit in our porridge for breakfast or enjoyed in the evening as a snack with some yoghurt.

Shop online/write a list- Ever been to the super market and ended up purchasing items you really don’t need? Yes we have all been there! When ordering food online it is unlikely you will purchase foods you do not need especially if you are following a shopping list.

A few other tips- purchase all nuts in the world food sections of the supermarket they are always half the price, Purchase produce when they are in season and don’t throw away leftovers eat them the next day or freeze them.

It’s okay to stand up for yourself!

stand-up-3

Recently we were put in a situation where we had to stand up for ourselves. At first we were scared to speak up, we felt intimidated by the group of people that we didn’t know very well. The problem was ruining our weekend and after a quick chat we decided we had every right to speak out as we were not the ones in the wrong.

Stand up 1.png

Standing up for yourself can be really challenging and incredibly scary but once you have done it you will feel a sense of relief and so much better about yourself afterwards. I think people sometimes think that standing up for yourself can make you argumentative but that doesn’t have to be the case, people should respect your opinion.

Stand up 2.png

When we don’t stand up for ourselves we end up feeling frustrated and misunderstood.   We have walked away from so many situations and end up wishing we had dealt with the situation differently and spoken up.

In the last few years we have learnt to stand up for ourselves and one another why should we let people walk over us and think it is okay to be disrespectful. It has taken hard work, perseverance and hundreds of pep talks but we are finally there and we will not be turning back anytime soon.

Our running goals

We have been running regularly for over a year, we have got to the point where we can happily run 7.5 miles but have not pushed ourselves to run either further. This year we have decided to challenge and push ourselves to go even further and we have decided to double the distance to 15 miles. If we managed to get to 7.5 miles in one year then what is to say we cannot get to 15 miles this year.

Running 2.png

We absolutely love running. It’s a great time to reflect or to just completely switch off from the world. We love running together; we make so many decisions when running about our blog, jobs, weekend plans and our future aspirations.

We have decided to set ourselves this challenge because we think it’s important to have goals that we can work towards together in 2017. We loving setting ourselves fitness goals to ensure we challenge and push ourselves so we can see continuous progress in our fitness levels.

Running 4.png

We will be running together once a week and as the evenings get lighter we will be making our runs longer. During the winter months we run 5 miles during the week on the road. In the summer however, we like to run in the woods deep into the Hertfordshire countryside watching the sun set. We will also be running on our own maybe at the weekend trying to push ourselves to run further each time we run.

We will also be running shorter runs of 5K as we know it is important to vary your running lengths in order to see progress and to give your body a break.  We both like to run in our lunch breaks as it is the perfect amount of time for a quick 5K.

running 5.png

We hope to also enter a couple of runs this year to keep us motivated and to have something to work towards. We wanted to take part in the 10 mile London parks run last year so maybe that will be on the cards this year.

We will be documenting our running progress over the next year so watch out for more running posts!

Are you lacking fitness motivation?

Scrolling through Instagram is sometimes enough to motivate us to get to the gym. Our Instagram feed is full of fitness fanatics who never seem to lack motivation. This isn’t true though, people only show what they want to show on Instagram so it is important to remember these people do run out of energy and can also lack motivation!

Everyone has those months were they are feeling less motivated. Most of the time motivation and consistency is never a problem for us, we look forward to going to the gym in the morning, but we do notice it takes us a little bit longer to get out of bed during those cold winter months.

We love the lifestyle we lead and we never desire another routine or lifestyle. When we have a bad day at work working out really helps us regain a positive attitude. It’s our place where we can switch off from the rest of the world and just focus on our work out. 99% of the time we will leave and have a completely different view on the problems we were facing beforehand.

Below are a few tips to help keep you dedicated and motivated to your fitness regime:

Don’t stress- It’s really important you don’t stress yourself out if you cannot fit a work out in, stress can cause de motivation. Sometimes other things get in the way that you have to prioritise and that’s just life. You aren’t going to throw away all your gains just because you missed a class. On the flip side of you do miss a class don’t let this demotivate you, get back up and go again tomorrow.

Make fitness part of your life but not your life- it’s so important you have the correct balance, that’s not to say that you should feel bad for turning down an event if you have your favourite fitness class that night. If you find yourself constantly doing this you could find yourself falling out of love with fitness. We like to work out in the morning so we can plan to see our friends and family during the evening.

Eat well- when we don’t eat a healthy balanced diet our body tells us off! We wake up feeling sluggish and lethargic with little or no energy. We know our bodies don’t agree with too much sugar and salt so it is important we personally eat this in moderation. Don’t restrict yourself though as you are likely to fall off the wagon, instead eat a balanced diet treating yourself every now and then.

Find a friend- working out with a friend can be so motivating! They are there to motivate you and maybe even get you there in the first place. If you have arranged to meet a friend in the morning you are less likely to stay in bed!

Pack your bag- we always pack our bag for the next day before going to bed! We also like to place our gym clothes by the bed so we just have to pull them on and go!

Set yourself a goal- we like to set ourselves regular goals so we have something to work towards. A few examples would be: run a certain distance, lift a certain weight, do a deadlift, do a pull up etc.

What are your top tips for keeping motivated, we would like to know!

November Favourites

The months seem to be going quicker and quicker and once again we cannot believe we are already writing our November favourites. This month has been especially busy as we have been planning and writing so many BLOGMAS posts.

See below some of our November favourites that we thought deserved a special mention!

Protein Pancakes- we have been making protein pancakes nearly every weekend this month and it has been great! They are a great refuel after the gym and are incredibly filling as well. We have been using My Protein powder in our pancakes which we absolutely love! We have really enjoyed experimenting with the flavours and so far we have had desiccated coconut (see recipe here), vanilla & Cinnamon (see recipe here). We have a really exciting recipe coming up next month so stay tuned you won’t want to miss it!

Twitter & Twitter Chats- We have always dedicated so much of our time to Instagram and the blog that Twitter took a back seat. It is only recently that we have started using Twitter a lot more and we love it. It’s a lot easier to engage with people on twitter we have joined in on so many twitter chats almost every night of the week. We have learnt so much about the blogging world that we didn’t know about previously! Some great chats to join are; #chattybees #GRLPOWR #prettylittlechat #thegirlgang #lbloggers Chats usually happen in the evening, there’s always chats happening on a Sunday night (GMT) which we love to join as it’s a nice way to end the weekend! There are also chats during the week, we usually join on a Wednesday night. Can you suggest any other chats?

Pinafore dresses- We love that that pinafore dresses are in fashion this season! Once again Primark have a great selection including leather, suede and cord. We have picked up a couple of the leather and cord dresses and have literally lived in them this month. H&M have some lovely denim pinafores that we have put on our Christmas list! We also spied some cute pinafore dresses in Forever 21, including a fab denim one! They would look perfect with a pair of converse during the day or Chelsea boots.

Bobble Hats- Now the winter is getting a lot colder how could we not mention bobble hats? We literally live in hats as soon as the weather starts to get colder! We absolutely love the bobble hats in Primark they always have a great selection and they usually only cost £2- bargain. Marks and Spencer’s also sell bobble hats that are incredibly warm which will be perfect when it gets freezing cold.

Sports Direct- We have been loving sports direct this month, we have purchased lots of new workout clothes to make sure we are ready for our winter runs! We really needed some illumines clothes for when we run in the dark and we were impressed with the selection sports direct had on offer and they were a bargain as well! It’s cheaper to buy online, for example in store they will do 2 for £15 (at £8 each) but online the same items will be £7.50 each, so you don’t need to buy 2!! Although you have to pay for postage (£4.99) if you collect in store you get a £5 voucher to spend in so, so delivery is basically free.

Rimmel 107 Matte Lipstick- We feel it is essential to have a good red lipstick in your make up collection during the winter months and especially December. We were browsing the make up in Superdrug and remembered the Rimmel 107 Kate Moss lipstick we had a few seasons back, it’s a gorgeous deep red colour! The lipstick is matte so it can leave you with dry lips so we wouldn’t advise using if you prefer a moisturising lipstick.

Borough Market – we don’t live in central London, but close enough to visit when we want to! Funnily enough this month we have visited Borough Market twice! Borough Markets is located next to London Bridge and is open daily (except Sundays). From Monday to Wednesday is operates a ‘half’ market so if a bit smaller. This basically means that the food stalls/street food is open for all the office workers. On Thursday to Saturday it’s a full market with lots of stalls to visit. There are so many stalls from fruit and veg, cheese and meat. You can also treat yourself to mulled wine or prosecco or even a hog roast. There’s also a bakery school called Bread Ahead on the edge of the market and they have a stall too with some incredible bread to buy. We reccomend you visit if you have the chance!

What have you been loving this November?
