Books to read this summer!

We are still loving reading and so have more books to share with you, plus these book reviews are super fun to write!

The Nightingale – Kristin Hannah

This book is set in France in WW2 and is the story of two sisters who have to deal with struggles of occupied France during World War Two. The bravey of these two sisters is amazing and you fall in love with Isabelle & Vianne. It takes a little while to get into, but once the main story begings I couldn’t put it down. The story is not true, but is based on a couple of true stories! Even better news this film is going to made into a film, we cannot wait!

On the Frontline with the Women who Fight Back – Stacey Dooley

I could NOT put this book down, each chapter was fascinating and I never wanted it to end. This book is all about the women that Stacey has met whilst filming all her documentaries throughout the year. Each chapter is about a different woman/group of women that Stacey has met in a specific place. Stacey meets prostitutes making a living in Turkey, women escaping South America and Yazidi women fighting back in Syria. This books makes you realise how blessed and fortunate we are to live in a country where the awful things that Stacey writes about doesn’t happen. Very eye opening and a must read for all!

Jog On: How Running Saved my Life – Bella Mackie

I loved loved loved this book, its a very honest and open story of Bella Mackie who suffers with severe mental health issues and how she took up running and how running helped her. It is a book of hope that will leave you feeling inspired. Also if you are looking for some motivation to run, start running or get back into running then this book with certainly help too!

This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor – Adam Kay

Oh my gosh this book was amazing, inspirational, sad, funny and all around a fab read. I could not put it down and read it in 2 days. Adam Kay shares his experience of training to become a doctor and then all his stories with the many patients he encounters whilst working for the NHS. Some of the stories are shocking, some are funny and some are heartbreaking. It gives you a great insight into working for the NHS and a new found respect for all doctors and nurses in the UK. I strongly recommend everyone reads this book.

Eat, Drink, Run.: How I Got Fit Without Going Too Mad – Bryony Gordon

This follows Bryony Gordon on her journey train for the London Marathon to raise money for Heads Together which supports those with Mental Health problems, Bryony herself suffers from OCD, Anxiety and Depression. This book will have you laugh and cry as Bryony shares her stories, with my favourite being when she meets the royal family! It ends with Bryony completing the London Marathon and leaves you totally inspired to get out and run, or sign up yourself!
