The Bath Arms Country Pub and Accommodation

The Bath Arms Country Pub and Accommodation is a small country hotel located in the tiny village of Horningsham, which is just a 40 minute drive from Bath. It is also located just around the corner from Longleat House and the Adventure Safari Park so if you are looking to visit Longleat this would be your perfect accommodation.

We had been looking forward to our visit for quite some time so we were super excited when the day we were visiting came around. It was a 1.5 hour drive from home so we set off at lunch time to arrive for check in at around 2:30pm.

It was a beautiful sunny day and when we arrived there were lots of people sitting outside in the sun enjoying a beverage. We parked up and made our way to reception to check in.

All of the rooms are located in a beautiful courtyard just behind the restaurant/pub (which was also perfect for photoshoots) We were shown to our room by the receptionist who told us that we might be lucky and hear the lions at night from Longleat.

We are allocated a twin room as we had requested when booking. The room was great size and let in a lot of natural light. We loved the fact that all of the rooms looked out onto the courtyard and because it was such a beautiful day we kept our double doors open.

The room came with a Dulce gusto coffee machine which we turned on almost immediately upon arriving! We had an Americano each which was just what we needed. They only provide you with two coffee pods per room but they were more than happy to provide us with a couple more the next morning.

The bathroom had a wet room which was quite cool and we have to say it was a great shower! There was also a really grand mirror in the bathroom which definitely added character.

DINNER

We headed to the pub for a pre dinner drink to make the most of the evening sunshine. Rach went for a gin and tonic and Annie had a disaronno and Diet Coke.

Our table was reserved for 7pm so we headed inside and were shown to our table. To start we ordered a bottle of Faultline Marlborough, Sauvignon blanc, New Zealand our favourite white wine! In fact we don’t drink any other kind of white wine (we are so fussy)!

There was a lot of choice on the menu that we were changing our decision a lot! In the end to start Annie went for the oak smoked bacon, bubble & squeak with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce which was absolutely delicious! The poached egg was cooked to perfection and the bubble and squeak had a lot of flavour, I felt like I was eating a mini fry up!

Rach ordered the pork starter which was served with a giant crouton and salad to garnish. It was full of flavour and so tasty!

For mains we decided to share (of course) because we both wanted to try a little bit of each! The first dish we ordered was the Castlemead corn fed chicken Ballantine, sautéed spinach, roasted hemp seeds, history smoked roasted mash and Madeira jus which was just so delicious and totally stole the show!

We especially loved the smoked mash potato it was so delicious and a completely new flavour for us we highly recommend this main course!

We also ordered the Pan seared Wiltshire lamb rump, creamed leek, carrot and cabbage parcel, pickled grapes, red quinoa cake and red wine. This dish was also really delicious we loved the grape addition and they complimented the red wine gravy perfectly!

The lamb was cooked to perfection and was full of flavour! Another main dish we would definitely recommend!

Of course we couldn’t visit and not have dessert, so we ordered the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and the sticky toffee pudding with chocolate ice cream!

The brownie was sooo gooey and delicious we could have eaten it all over again! We love a good sticky toffee pudding and if it is on the menu we have to order it! If we are 100% honest with you we were a little let down with this one, it almost appeared like it was a little burnt.

BREAKFAST

Breakfast at a hotel is something we always look forward to, we woke up super early to take a couple of photos before heading to breakfast!

There was a small buffet selection which included a selection of pastries, bread and toaster, fruit and boxes of cereal.

The waitress came over to our table to take our drinks order and of course we went for coffee!

There was also a menu with a wide selection of options to choose from. We both opted for the full fry up which was so yummy. The sausages and bacon were of a great quality and you could tell they had been cooked fresh.

We had the best time during our stay and we honestly really do recommend this quirky Country Hotel! If you are looking for a quiet weekend away in the countryside or you want to visit Longleat then this is definitely the place for you!
