Pho Restaurant Review

We jumped at the chance of visiting Pho for dinner, Rach visited Vietnam back in December 2017 and ever since then has always loved eating Vietnamese food (I mean doesn’t everyone).

We visited the Spitalfields branch which is located just a 10 minute walk walk Liverpool Street. We arrived at 19:30 and the place was buzzing. From the outside and at first glance this Pho looks relatively small, but actually it surprised us with how big the restaurant was. They have a large seating area upstairs which we had a nosey at when we went to the toilets.

The manager introduced herself to us and told us that we were welcome to try whatever we liked on the menu, as asked her her recommendations like we always do and of course went with a couple of them.

Rach ordered the Nojita to drink which was on their specials menu. This drink was muddled lime and mint, homemade lemonade & soda, shaken and served over crushed ice, garnished with fresh mint. Her eyes said it all when she tried her first sip she was in Nojito heaven!

I ordered a …. which was so refreshing and not too sweet. I would definitely order it again and would recommend you do as well if you visit Pho.

To start we ordered the Spicy Salad Rolls which were three carb-free pure veggie rolls tied together with a carrot ribbon from their new healthy menu. These were so bright and colour and well healthy! They were really delicious were full of lots of bright and colourful vegetables.

We also ordered the Nem Hai San which was a Large crispy spring roll consisting of tiger prawn, crab & pork with nước chấm dipping sauce which were INCREDIBLE! We could have eaten these all over again! If you order a starter when you visit Pho then you have to choose these we really couldn’t recommend them enough.

The third and final starter we ordered was fried squid which was also really tasty. The waitress came over and told us to mix the lime juice with the salt and pepper as it is a total game changer.

Main courses for us were easy, we knew we wanted a rice dish and the curry just sounded out of this world. I went for the chicken Ca-Ri curry and Rach ordered the same but had prawn instead. They really are not stingy on the chicken and prawn portions and we must say the prawns were ginormous! Rice is served on the side which we also tucked into but actually didn’t manage to finish (that must be a first).

We had a peep at the dessert menu but to be honest we were absolutely stuffed we couldn’t even think about eating anything else! We did spy the green tea ice cream though that sounded really tasty, we would have tried that had I had room oh and the chocolate slab!

Toilet review: They were very clean! You will find them upstairs!

The staff at this Pho were to attentive and really helpful. We cannot thank them enough for helping us have the most perfect evening.

By the time we were ready to leave the restaurant had emptied out a lot, what with it being the city you would kind of expect that as it was gone 9pm.

Panzerotto Blues Tooting Market

Want to sample the only panzerotto in London….. well you might not even know what it is, so let us tell you first and then we are sure you will want to try it too!

Panzerotto is similar to a calzone that is probably the best way to describe what it looks like but let us tell you it is NOT a calzone and Panzerotte Blues make sure you know this too….. look at these signs and you will agree!

It is basically a sourdough pizza base with a filling of your choice that is folded over then deep fried. Now you may think oh wow its fried, its going to be really greasy, well you are wrong, it isn’t greasy at all, in fact its super crispy and light and we are converted!

We were lucky enough to meet the owner and founder who chatted to us and told us the process of it and also told us little stories about the Panzerotto!

Now, we have told you a little about the panzerotto you now want to know where it is! Head to Tooting Market in, you guessed it Tooting and you will find Panzerotto Blues, you order from thier little kiosk and can either sit at the seats they have along the wall or on the main communcal seats in the middle of the market. They also sell them at Greenwich market, so make sure you head down there as well (Monday – Friday only!)

Rachel went for the Margherita panzerotto which was absolutely delicious! The panzerotto was both filling and light! We didn’t feel overly full but we were also 100% satisfied! Annie ordered their best selling panzerotto which was the Panz Jungle- mushrooms, spinach, goats cheese and a sprinkle of chilli flakes giving it that extra kick!

The Margherita was £5.50 and the Panz Jungle was £6.35 which we think is very decent for a market stall lunch, especially when it’s so fresh and cooked in front of you!

The Boat House Restaurant Review in Jersey

The Boat House is a restaurant located in St Aubin’s which it is part of The Boat House Group. The Boat House is the group’s flagship venue and is described as a contemporary restaurant and bar which we would very much agree with.

The Boat House is a restaurant we always choose to visit when we are in Jersey. We love everything about the restaurant; the food, the views and the atmosphere.

The restaurant is located upstairs (upper deck) overlooking the sea, you can see for miles on a clear day.  It’s important to know that the upper deck is only open at the weekend (Friday-Sunday).

The menu is predominately fish (like most places in Jersey), they have an extensive menu that made it difficult for me to choose what to order as there was so much I could have chosen.

We started with a bottle of Moët champagne which was a lovely treat as we were celebrating my mums birthday.

For starter I went for the Jersey Crab which was served with fresh lemon, celeriac remoulade, capers on toasted sour dough bread. It was so delicious and incredibly filling, I would definitely recommend it as a starter.

My parents ordered the Fish Mixed Grill to share which includes a selection of fresh seasonal shellfish and is served with new potatoes. This looked pretty epic and my parents said it tasted delicious as well. It cost £46.50 and for the amount of fresh fish they got it was amazing value.

I went the the Duck which was served with a gravy and blackberries. It also came with roasted pumpkin and potato. I ordered some broccoli to have on the side as I do love a bit of veg! I would 100% recommend this dish and I would definitely opt for it again.

I was so full after my main course I unfortunately couldn’t fit in a dessert! I did see the dessert menu though and they all looked super tasty!

There is also a bar and restaurant on the ground floor (main deck) where we have also been for a drink, the vibe is completely different and much more relaxed to the upper deck. They have TV’s for major sporting events and also sell an extensive range of beers and wine. The main deck is open seven days a week and has an a la carte menu.

There is also an outside seating area which on a nice day is absolutely heaving giving the place a lively atmosphere.

We are yet to try any of the other Boat House Group restaurants but they are definitely on our list. The Tree House is located in St Brelade and The Farm House is St John.

The Somerville Hotel Restaurant Review

My Grandad chose to spend his 90th birthday at The Somerville Hotel which is located in St Aubin’s in Jersey, a quaint fishing village.  The restaurant was booked for forty adults at 13:00PM.

The afternoon begun with a Champagne reception, there were a selection of juices you could add to the champagne which I was happy about as Champagne isn’t my drink of choice I would always opt for Prosecco out of choice (my Mum would kill me if she heard me say that). The juice purees included peach, orange and blackcurrant I went for the peach flavour and it was utterly delicious, the Champagne was flowing and the waiters were brilliant at topping up the glasses which we were more than happy with.

We were seated at 13:30PM and in front of us was a personalised 90th birthday menu which was a nice added touch. A waitress came round and served us fresh warm bread and there was the option to have white or brown. We were given enough time to decide what we wanted to eat from the menu before the waitress came round and took our order. We didn’t have to pick our dessert which we were happy about as this is something we often struggle to choose prior to eating our main course as we are never sure what we are going to feel like; are we going to want sweet or do we want cheese? Oh the struggles.

There were four starter options; Cauliflower soup with bacon lardons, smoked ham hock, citrus cured salmon and marinated tiger prawns. I went for the cauliflower soup which was beautiful and very flavoursome, I would definitely recommend.

Prior to the starter being served the wine was poured which was a delicious crisp white Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough New Zealand white wine. White wine isn’t usually my drink of choice I am much more a red wine kinda gal. I find White wine gives me really bad heart burn and it can be incredibly tangy, but this wine was utterly delicious and I found myself going back for more, in fact I didn’t go back for more the waiters were going round topping up our glasses which can become dangerous because you lose track of how much alcohol you have consumed!

There were four main course options; Roast Rump of lamb, char grilled scotch rump steak, pan fried fillet of sea bream or pan fried breast of chicken. I went for the steak which really isn’t like me! I almost always go for the chicken but for some reason steak is what floated my boat that day so that is what I went for.

There were also 4 Desserts; Raspberry soufflé with white chocolate mousse, dark chocolate tart with macerated cherries, Brie de meaux with apples and biscuits oe a selection of ice-creas and sorbets with poached peppered peaches. I went for the raspberry soufflé as I had never tried one before. I certainly was not disappointed it was beautifully served and it was ridiculously light and fluffy. The chocolate tart was also Moorish and I helped myself to several spoonfuls of my boyfriend’s lol. My mum did comment that there was only one type of cheese on the cheese board which was slightly bizarre especially if you are not keen on a brie like cheese.

After we had finished our desserts a surprise birthday cake was bought out by the waiters for my Grandad which was a chocolate ganache cake decorated in macaroons. Of course we couldn’t say no to a slice of cake so what was 3 course meal had now turned into a 4 course meal (not that we were complaining). If you are celebrating a birthday we would definitely recommend ordering a cake, I am not sure whether they made it or whether they ordered it in but it was a lovely touch and tasted just as good as it looked.

Teas and coffee were served with mini plates of petis fleurs.

We enjoyed several gins as well which were served beautifully, we especially liked the tanquray gin with a slice of grapefruit and sparkling tonic water. The waiter knew a lot about his gin and how each of them should be served so it was interesting to learn a little bit about the different gins.

Couldn’t fault anything about lunch at The Somerville Hotel and we would definitely recommend it to anyone, whether you have  a party to arrange or you just want to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner at the weekend whilst visiting jersey
