We visited on the first week of December, if you follow our Instagram you probably would have seen all of our stories (if not why not go over and check them out!).

Berlin is a super cool city that we honestly could not recommend enough, there is so much to do and see you definitely won’t be bored during your visit. We hope this travel guide will ensure you will have as good a time in Berlin as we did!

Getting around the city

We got an Uber from the airport to Berlin Mitte as there were loads around! It cost around £35 into the city centre and on the way back to the airport it cost us £55- not sure why it was so much more! The train is also an option and we probably would have got the trains back if you didn’t run out of time!

We walked pretty much everywhere during out visit as we believe you see far more of the city on foot as opposed to public transport, but then again we are a little mad and did walk over 37,000 steps a day.

We also hired electric scooters which were SO much fun and a great way to get around the city as they have tonnes of cycle lanes. The Lime electric scooters are literally everywhere so we decided to download the Lime App and give it a go. Honestly it was so much fun and very reasonable as well!

Sight Seeing

East side Gallery– The East Side Gallery is an open-air gallery in Berlin. It consists of a series of murals painted directly on a 1,316 m long remnant of the Berlin Wall, located near the centre of Berlin.

Brandenburg Gate- The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century monument, built on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II after the successful restoration of order during the Batavian Revolution.

Holocaust Memorial- The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial, is a memorial in Berlin to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust, designed by architect Peter Eisenman and engineer Buro Happold and it is a must visit during your visit to Berlin.

Check Point Charlie- Checkpoint Charlie was the name given by the Western Allies to the Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War.  The barrier, checkpoint booth, the flag and the sandbags are all based on the original site.

Tiergarten Park- we walked and scootered through Tiergarten park which is Berlins most popular inner-city park. It is the perfect place for a leisurely stroll, and we can imagine in the summer it would be the perfect place to sunbathe.

Reichstag Building- if you want to head to the Reichstag Building you will need to book in advance, it is free to visit but if you don’t apply online then you won’t get a spot! Once you apply on the website, they will then send you an email- this is what we missed as it went into our junk folder so sadly didn’t get the chance to visit.

Where to stay

We stayed in Berlin Mitte at a St Christopher’s Inn Hostel and had the best time! It was the perfect location as it was so central, it was clean, welcoming and just what we were after! We were very kindly gifted our stay but a top tip is to book through the St Christopher’s Inn website as you will get free breakfast!

Brunch & Coffee

Whenever to visit a new city we always try and hunt out the best places to eat brunch and drink coffee and it is safe to say we succeeded in Berlin.

Le Bon

Located in Kreuzberg Le Bon is a hidden gem (quite literally look out for the sign on the floor) and we could not recommend this brunch spot enough. It was around an hour’s walk from our St Christopher’s Inn hostel in Berlin Mitte, but totally worth it! We decided to order two dishes and share (of course).

We ordered the Avocado Toast with lime, herbs and Maldon sea salt it was served on two slices of toasted sourdough and topped with rucola, oven roasted tomatoes and we ordered a side of bacon.

We also ordered the Granola Pancakes covered with homemade granola crunch, caramelised banana, jam, choc almond butter and whipped vanilla cream.

Both dishes were INCREDIBLE honestly, we could not stop talking about Le Bon and the portion sizes were huge. We were super impressed with the price as well as they were both under 10 euros.

Two & Two

Whilst in Kreuzberg you should visit to Two & Two for a bite to eat or a coffee! We headed there for a coffee after Le Bon on Route to the East Side Gallery and we are so glad we did. Rach ordered an iced coffee and in Two & Two they make the iced coffee with frozen coffee ice cubes to make the coffee extra strong which we are now going to do back home! The owners are actually French and so sweet, visiting here out a smile on our faces@ Also good to note that this coffee shop isn’t too far from the East Side Gallery, it’s literally one straight road there!

Benedict’s

Benedict’s is in Charlottenburg, again about an hour’s walk from Berlin Mitte but again totally worth the journey. Benedict’s was super busy and we were told the wait for a table was around 45 minutes, the food looked so good we decided to wait and actually it only took around 15/20 minutes.

We decided to order two sweet dishes from Benedict’s as they both sounded delicious and as Rach isn’t an egg lover there wasn’t much on the savoury menu we fancied.

We ordered the French Toast which was brioche slices marinated in milk, cinnamon, fried in butter served with fresh fruits, crème fraiche, citrus crumble and blueberry marmalade.

We also ordered the White Chocolate Espresso Pancakes and oh my gosh wow they were some of the best pancakes we have ever tasted. The pancakes were light and fluffy and the espresso sauce went perfectly with the white chocolate drops that melted when the hot espresso shot was poured on top.

If you order a savoury dish at Benedict’s they will serve you complimentary bread with your dish but if you order a sweet dish this does not apply.

What do you fancy love?

This café is also located in Charlottenburg and we visited for a coffee, Rach ordered another iced coffee and Annie had a Black Americano, both were super strong and definitely gave us the caffeine hit we needed.

Princess Cheesecake

What a great name for a place, and yes you guessed it, it serves cheesecake! We didn’t actually visit here as we were on our way to have breakfast, however we had a peek in the door and it looked SO cute. If we had more time then we 100% would’ve visited for a cheesecake!

Dinner

We happened to stumble across the cutest little Restaurant called Piccolo Giardino and immediately knew that we had to visit! We looked at booking a table but decided not to as we didn’t know the exact time we would arrive. We arrived at around 7:30pm and had no trouble booking a table!

This is the perfect place to visit for a drink outside under the heaters or like us you can sit inside and enjoy delicious Italian food and wine!

We had the best time in Berlin and cannot recommend this city enough! Visit any time of year and you will be sure to have a good time we are sure! Let us know if you have any questions on anything we have mentioned.
