The Feathers is located in a little quaint village called Woodstock. Woodstock is the gateway to the Cotswolds if you are travelling from London, and is the perfect destination if you want a break from busy city life.
The Feathers is a boutique country hotel that has a mixture of rooms and suites. They very kindly placed us in a suite that was just so beautiful and very generous of them.
In our suite we had a dining, lounge and dressing room area all of which were decorated beautifully. Double doors led us through to the bedroom which was super cute and pink and the bed was so unbelievably comfy.
We also had a large en-suite bathroom which had both a shower and a bath giving you the choice depending on what you fancied. The Feathers also had The White Company products which of course we loved! There was also a separate toilet in the living room which took us a while to find (because we were not expecting to have a separate toilet as well).
There is also a restaurant at The Feathers which offers traditional pub grub with a modern sophisticated twist. We had a table reservation at 7:30PM and we immediately got the feeling that lots of locals like to visit The Feathers for dinner which is always a good sign.
We had a pre dinner gin which was divine and just what we needed. We tried the The Cotswold Distillery gin which was served with grapefruit and a Schweppes tonic water. The Feathers has their very on gin bar with an unbelievable amount of gin, so make sure you drop by during your visit or if you are passing the hotel.
To accompany our gin we ordered a selection of nibbles to share. The baked Camembert grabbed our attention immediately so of course we ordered it, it was served with sour dough bread and an onion chutney. We also ordered some mixed marinated olives and the sausages with a harissa dip.
For main Rach had the braised blade of beef, roscoff onion, smoked bacon and red wine jus. It was also served with mixed greens and mash potato. This dish may have looked a lot smaller than Annies ginormous pie, but oh my it was tender, bursting with flavour and I felt very full after! It was delicious!
Annie went for the pie of the day which was steak and ale pie shepherds pie. It was served with mixed green and chips and it was absolutely HUGE! I didn’t even make a dent in the chips, the pie was so delicious and so so filling. The mash potato was piped on top of the pie and it was so smooth and creamy. The pie was full of so many incredible flavours, I would highly recommend this dish!
We also order a glass of Malbec each as we knew it would compliment our beef dishes perfectly. This Malbec was honestly one of the nicest Malbecs we have tried, it was so smooth and very easy to drink.
For dessert (honestly we were already so stuffed) we ordered the sticky toffee pudding (of course) and the vanilla panna cotta. Both of these dishes were so yummy we particular liked the blackberry sorbet that was served with the panna cotta!
A jug of peppermint tea and some petit fours were delivered to our room for us to enjoy in bed, honestly we felt like princesses the entire stay. We went to bed feeling extremely content but also very full, haha!
We woke bright and early and headed down to breakfast still incredibly full from last nights dinner. That being said we did both order a Full English, which was very delish! The Full English included bacon, sausages, black pudding, mushroom, tomato, baked beans and an eggs cooked as you like.
There was lots of other choices on them menu and you could also help yourself to the continental Buffet which had a few options! We were so full we didn’t have room for anything extra.
We also ordered a pot of coffee and mixed toast which was served with what tasted like homemade marmalade (it was delicious)!
The WiFi at the hotel was incredible, we were both working on Thursday morning and didn’t have any issues with it. We also noticed that there was a study that you could work in if you wished!
The reception was also very welcoming and there were plenty of spaces to take a seat should you wish! The staff at The Feathers were all so helpful and extremely welcoming and went out of their way to ensure that we had the best stay.
Thank you so much for having us, we cannot recommend The Feathers enough! OH and they are currently in the process of setting up a apres ski bar for Christmas… can’t believe we missed it!
