Going to local independent coffee shops whilst away is one of our favourite things to do. As soon as we come across a cute-quirky café we immediately get our phones out and take a photo of the front of shop, so we can remember and visit during our stay.
During my visit to Budapest this is exactly what happened, as soon as we stepped outside of our air bnb and started exploring our list of places begun.
There are so many cool and quirky coffee shops in Budapest (Rach visited a couple of years back and told me the coffee game was strong over there, so I was very excited).
PEST SIDE
GOA MAMA COFFEE- we visited Goa Mama on our first day in Budapest, we spotted this GOA MAMA café whilst we were in their homeware shop that was located next door.
The coffee shop was super cute, and the staff were very welcoming. There were plenty of spaces to sit down in the coffee shop and they also sold lots of homemade cakes which looked delicious, so if you are looking for an afternoon pick me up then you should head to Goa Mama.
The coffee was also super strong (as are all the coffee’s in Budapest) which was great. I ordered an Americano and it was super delicious and my boyfriend ordered a Cappuccino. It was priced very reasonably I think we paid £3 for both coffee’s which wouldn’t have been the case in London.
DORADO COFFEE- Dorado was located opposite our Air Bnb so of course we had to stop by! It was a super-hot day and we had just been for a run so I opted for an iced cold brew, which was served with a slice of orange on the side, my boyfriend order a flat white which was really creamy and delicious.
There was seating outside Dorado so we sat on the benches and enjoyed our coffees in the sunshine, whilst watching the world go by.
BUDAPEST COFFEE STAND- We love how this little coffee stand was a hole in the wall, it was super cute and made the most delicious coffees. We were watching the barista make the coffee and noticed how precise they were when measuring out the coffee as they were using scales to ensure that it was the perfect amount for the type of coffee he was making.
I ordered a long black which again was very tasty and full of flavour, my boyfriend ordered a Cortardo which if you don’t know is basically a shot of espresso topped up with milk. He absolutely loved his Cortardo and decided it would be his new coffee choice.
PEET AND THE FLAT WHITE- we passed this coffee shop whilst on our morning run and it was already buzzing! We didn’t actually visit this cafe, it was on our list but unfortunately we just didn’t make it there!
KONTAKT COFFEE- another coffee shop that was on our list but we didn’t get to visit! Kontakt is located down a cute quirky lane and it looked very instagramable and the coffee smelt incredible!
The food looked great as well!
HELYSZIN- We are really gutted that we didn’t get to visit as not only did the coffee look amazing the food also looked so delicious! We loved the coffee cart that sat outside as well!
BUDA SIDE
BOLT ES KAVESZO- This Cafe is pretty hidden and we came across it whilst walking down from the Citadella! We walked the back way down and if we hadn’t we would never have stumbled across this cafe! I did a little research around this cafe and it looks like it is a shop and coffee shop!
PICNIC- This little cafe was located on route to the castle on the Buda side! We walked past it on our way and if we had not already had a couple of coffee’s already we definitely would have popped in! So if you are over on the Buda side and you fancy a coffee then definitely pop into Picnic (and let us know what it’s like hehe).
It is safe to say that the Budapest coffee scene is thriving and if you are a coffee lover like us you will be spoilt for choice!
