Staying at Wyse House Campsite

Now the weather is getting warmer, Spring and Summer are around the corner, this means camping trips are on the cards!
We recently stayed at Wyse House Campsite & absolutely loved it so of course we had to share it with you.

Location

Wyse House is located North East of York, about 30 mins away from York. The closest place is Malton & Old Malton which has lots of pubs, restaurant, bakeries a Lidl & Morrisons. The campsite is opposite Eden Camp, a wartime museum.

Facilities

The facilities here are GREAT!! There are 22 pitches at this campsite all with electric hook-up set over 2 acres of land and the views are incredible. We loved that when booking you can pick your plot and you can see where you will be on a handy map.
The toilets and showers were amazing and we can see why they have won ‘Loo of the Year Award’. They are so clean and spacious and also really warm. There is nothing worse than having a shower in a cold room but this was a luxury as it was toasty warm. There are separate ladies and gentlemen toilets/showers and also an extra baby changing toilet too.
There is also a communal kitchen with 2 sinks and a huge fridge/freezer and a kettle. The kitchen also had some pots and pans too and plenty of helpful leaflets and information on the local area.

Family Friendly

This campsite is sooo family friendly and there is an amazing play area to keep the kids occupied. In the kitchen there were also toys for kids to play with too. We think this is a great campsite to bring your family to.

Dog Friendly

Wyse House is dog friendly, which is why we chose it. As per most campsites dogs have to be kept on leads at all times, so we suggest bringing or buying a steak for your dog. At the back of the campsite was an enclosed dog play area which had a bin for poop bags and some toys for your dog to play with too – we loved these extra touches.

The Cabin

Wyse House Campsite also has a cabin. The glamping cabin is a timber built camping hut designed to be used just like a tent, but unlike a tent it is already set up on the site. The glamping cabin has a floor space of 17m2, with four bunk beds and a double futon there is ample space for a family or group of up to 6. Just bring your camping gear minus the tent! The glamping cabin has lights and a fitted heater.

Shepherds Hut

New for 2022 is a Shepherds Hut.  This is a cosy alternative to camping for two adults. It has a pull out double bed which can be used as a sofa during the day. It has a wood-burning stove and is fitted with solar panels that power a central light and a phone charging USB point. Like the Cabin, you just need to bring a camping stove which can be used in the outdoor kitchen area.

Local Pub

The highlight of this campsite was that it was walking distance to the most amazing pub, The Royal Oak Pub & Kitchen was a 30 minute (max) walk away from the campsite over the gorgeous fields. It’s pretty easy to walk to, you walk out the back of the campsite follow the fence to the river and then take a right. You go over a stye and under a main road and continue to follow the river all the way to Old Malton where you come out right opposite the pub.
We visit the pub the first night for a drink in the evening sunshine and the booked a table for dinner the next evening. Every time we visited this pub was heaving and it was so popular with the locals so we recommend you book if you want to eat here. The landlord Steve made us feel so welcome and was the friendliest landlord who made this pub incredible.
Steve is South African so some of the food on the menu was South African and of course we had to try it!
