7 Things You Should Never Forget When Travelling Abroad

We are going away this weekend to Madrid and it got us thinking about things you need to remember to pack!

Perhaps like us you are going away for the winter to sunnier places. Or you might be organising your travel plans for next year hopefully things are fully back to normal by then. There are so many wonderful places to visit, such as these amazing European locations.

#1: Don’t Forget To Check Your Passport

1. Don’t forget to check your passport

Is your passport still valid? Make sure it hasn’t yet passed its expiry date. Some countries will require you to have at least 6 months left on it before the expiry date, so if it is close to expiration, make sure you renew it in time for your travels.

Don’t Forget to check visa requirements

Not every country requires a visa but many do, so check on the embassy website of the country you intend to visit. There are other places where you can get visa information too, such as local tourist and travel information sites, so do your research to make sure you know what visa you require. If you’re planning on travelling within the Schengen area of Europe, for example, check out this link for Schengen visa information. If you fail to get the right visa, you could be forced to get on a plane back home, so make this a priority.

Don’t forget to get vaccinated

You have probably been vaccinated for COVID-19 by now, which is a good thing, as many countries won’t allow you access if you haven’t. If you have been vaccinated for this virus, make sure you have evidence with you, as it may be a requirement to show it when you land at your destination.

Don’t forget to get travel insurance

Travel insurance will cover you for all manner of mishaps, including lost luggage, personal injury, theft, and medical expenses, so you shouldn’t be without it. You might already have some level of travel insurance via your bank or credit card company but if not, you should compare insurance plans and prices online to make sure you’re covered for any eventuality.

Don’t forget to order your medication

While there will be some level of healthcare in the country you are visiting, it can’t be guaranteed that they will be able to supply you with the medication you usually take. So, make sure you speak to your doctor before you travel and ask him for the relevant prescriptions so you can get your medication early. You will need to adhere to these medication guidelines when travelling though so have a read of the linked article to learn more.

Don’t forget to give a person back home your travel itinerary

It can be useful for a family member to have your travel information especially if you are travelling alone. If you fail to check in with them it may be because you’re in trouble. If they know where in the world you are, they will be able to get in touch with the relevant embassy if they haven’t been able to speak to you in the meantime. With your well-being in mind, here are some useful safety tips that are worth adhering to.

Have we forgotten to mention anything? Probably, so look for travel checklists online for anything else that is worth remembering. By doing so, and by following our tips, you will have a safer, smoother, and hopefully stress-free travel adventure.
