The Thing About Running, It’s Not For Everyone

Running has become one of the most popular activities in the UK. More than 2 million people in England run regularly, at least once weekly. There is definitely a running bug going around and we have definitely got it ourselves!

Most runners say they started their journey with a variety of goals in mind. Some wanted to run for charity and needed to train to be able to join a marathon. Others were keen to lose weight and get fit again. And finally, more and more urban runners have chosen the outdoors activity to escape the city stress for a moment or maybe you just run simply for FUN!

That doesn’t mean that running is for everyone though and you know what it is okay not to LOVE running!

Some people truly enjoy running

There is something genuinely liberating about running! We love the fact you can tie up your laces, put on a running playlist and off you go!

Sure, there will be challenges and hills on the way trust us we know about hills where we live!

Running is t easy and your legs might hurt and your lungs might feel at first as if they were going to explode it takes time to get used to running and we always say the first 5km is always the hardest. running changes our mood and the more we run the happier we are!

However, if you find it hard to build up enough stamina or if you’re struggling with joint issues, running may not be suitable for you- do seek medical advice.

Swimming is good for fitness and joints

We love swimming and after our summer holiday every year we always say to ourselves that we should go swimming more!

Swimming is less impact on your ankles, knees or hips as opposed to running! Annie used to swim competitively when she was younger and as a result of this my cardiovascular fitness at the time was incredible!

Why not go for some swimming lessons and if you’re not sure where to start, then why not search for “where is the best swim school near me?” Learning how to swim properly will make it much easier for you in the long run!

Solitary activities are dull

If you don’t like exercising alone then that is also fine! You might need a social environment to feel motivated. Instead, you should consider giving classes a go. Dance classes can be a lot of fun and boost your cardio fitness at the same time. There are also tonnes of classes around London that you can join! We love a Bootcamp or a Barre class.

The bottom line is that you should listen to you and you body. Not everyone is a runner, a swimmer, a dancer, etc. If you can’t find the time to run to stay fit, chances are that you might have plenty of spare time to do something you enjoy instead. Find that thing, the activity that makes you happy, and join the movement.
