STAXX Protein Bars Review

We had never heard of STAXX Bars before we were very kindly sent them to review as they have recently launched three new flavour- Peanut & Caramel, Cookies & Cream & Dark Chocolate Mint. STAXX previously only had the Chocolate Caramel flavour. We couldn’t wait to try all of the flavours when they arrived as they all sounded delicious.

You can currently purchase STAXX bars on the website or across many other independent and online retailers including Amazon and Muscle food.

We can honestly say that STAXX bars are the nicest protein bars we have EVER tried, and we have tired a lot. We LOVE the fact you cannot taste the protein in the bars which is something we have struggled to find.

When we eat a STAXX Bar it feels like you are eating a chocolate bar, it really hits the spot and doesn’t leave us craving more sugary foods. The sugar content is low with most of them having about 2g of sugar per bar which is also another bonus. They also contain 20g Protein and are also low in net carbs.

We love how chewy the STAXX Bars are as well, they all have a caramel consistency to them which you will also love if you like a chewy protein bar. All the bars have a chocolate rice crispy coating on the outside layer which is something we really enjoyed.

CHOCOLATE CARAMEL
This was the first flavour we tried and immediately fell in love with the brand and the bars they had on offer. Chocolate caramel was also the first STAXX Bar launched and the only one you can currently purchase on their website. I felt like I was eating a toffee crisp which was a massive throw back as I have not had a toffee crisp in SO long, those chocolate bars are so under rated!

PEANUT & CARAMEL
This one was quite similar to the chocolate caramel flavour just with peanuts. We love peanuts and anything nutty  so this bar was right up our street. We loved the caramel in the bar mostly because we are fast eaters and it slowed us down so we could saviour it for longer.

DARK CHOCOLATE MINT
Dark Chocolate Mint was definitely one of my favourites which I was really surprised about but that is just purely down to the fact I always forget how much I actually enjoy mint flavoured chocolate. It reminded me of a mint Aero but with a crispy outer layer.

COOKIES & CREAM
I left this flavour until last as I am not usually a fan of cookies and cream flavoured products but when I did eventually try it I actually really enjoyed it.  It wasn’t my favourite out of the four as it didn’t give me that WOW factor and the flavours were not as intense.

We enjoyed the bars so much we headed straight to the website and ordered a box. There is a taster box available where you can purchase a box of all the flavours for £8.99. We ordered 12 of the Chocolate Caramel Flavour because it was our favourite but we will be ordering some of the Dark Chocolate Mint ones as well.

We hope to see STAXX bars in supermarkets in 2018 because that would be amazing!

Getting more vegetables into you diet

As the world becomes more and more health conscious over the years, people are becoming more aware of the food they put into their bodies and the importance of getting that five a day every day.

Who remembers when School dinners were changed at School? We were at the age where it was the WORST thing in the world! Long gone were our turkey twizzlers and chips for lunch! We were distraught! What we really needed was a little bit of education about WHY they decided to change our delicious school catering!

We have got some simples ways that can help you make sure you get your greens in and the best thing about it is the fact you won’t even know you are eating them!

BANANA BREAD

If you love banana bread, then our banana bread could be the ideal way to add some extra goodness into your diet as it doesn’t contain any refined sugar, it’s so delicious!

SMOOTHIES

One of the easiest ways to get more good food into your diet is to simply make a fruity smoothie in the morning for their breakfast. Smoothies are a brilliant way to disguise vegetables (like spinach) and many people will add things like carrot and spinach into smoothies and then disguise them with fruits. You can even add protein powder or other supplements to your smoothie.

SERVE IT WITH DIP

Why not cut up some veg and enjoy it with a delicious dip like hummus or guacamole. This is one of our go to lunches and it’s even better when you make the hummus yourself. Fancy making it a little sweeter? Chop up and apple and dip it into some peanut butter, it’s the perfect afternoon snack.

ADD IT

One of the best ways to get vegetables into your diet is by adding more vegetable into your meal! If you are making a spag bowl make it from scratch using fresh tomatoes, onions, carrots and peppers. This can be easily done in many recipes such as in cottage pie where you can add some carrot and celery. It will allow you to still eat the foods you enjoy.

Pumpkin Protein Pancakes

We were recently browsing the isles of  homesense (which is something we do on a regular basis) and came across the Halloween isle, of course we had to stop and take a look. As we were looking we came across a pumpkin cookie cutter and imediatly thought we could make some pumpkin pancakes using it. The cutter was super cheap it only cost us £1.99.

So that is exactly what we did one Saturday morning after the gym, we came home mixed up a batter and got flipping. The cutter was fairly big so we had to make sure we made the pancakes fairly big, we didnt cut them into shape until they were cooked.

We decided to make protien pancakes this time and added some Wheybox toffee protein to add some flavour. You can make them with any flavour protein we have used vanilla & white chocolate in the past and they both taste fab.

For toppings we decided to go for stewed cinnamon apples and some cinnamon cream cheese which tasted bloomin fantastic.

You can find the ingredients we used for the pancakes below (we made 3 extra large pancakes. its really simple add all the ingredients into a mixing bowl and whisk until combined. Melt some butter or coconut oil in a hot pan, add a ladle of mixture and allow the pancake to cook on one side before flipping (you should see bubbles appear). Enjoy with whatever toppings you choose!

Ingedients
50g Oats Blended
1 Egg
1tsp Baking Powder
1 Scoop Protein Powder
100ml Almond Milk

Toppings
Stewed Apples with Cinnamon
Cream Cheese with Cinnamon

Mocha Protein Shake

protein 3

That protein kindly sent us some of their protein so we decided to make a delicious post work out shake because we love them. We used the ‘Chirpy Chirpy Choca Mocha with organic coffee’ protein.

That Protein is a plant based protein powder and for once the protein actually tastes great. They are dairy free, no added sugars, non GMO, no sweeteners and free from anything artificial.

We decided to add a couple of other ingredients to make our shake thick and creamy- the best way to have a shake. We have tried it with just water though when we have been in a rush leaving the gym and it still tastes great!

protein 1

Recipe
1 scoop of that protein mocha flavour
1 banana
8 frozen cherries(3 for decoration)
Handful of ice
Almond milk
Tea spoon cacao nibs (leave some for decoration)

Place all the ingredients in a blender and whizz it up until combined! Top tip always put your protein in last so it doesn’t get stuck to the sides (its a nightmare if it does and you will find yourself shaking the blender trying to get it to combine).

A super easy recipe to follow!

Just PB protein shake

We love a protein shake after working out, during the weeks we usually mix our protein with water and chug it whilst running out of the gym and making our way to work. When we actually get the chance to make a delicious protein shake we jump at the chance because let’s be honest it tastes WAY better.

Annie loves nut butter so always opts for a shake that has NB in it! So we thought it was about time we created our own PB protein shake (we will be sharing more recipes soon). This protein shake is SO simple to make and is always Annie’s go to shake at the weekend.

PB

Ingredients
1 banana
1 scoop white chocolate protein

See we said it was the quickest recipe ever!

April favourites

April has been such a busy month for us and we have absolutely loved it! We both went away for the Easter weekend with our families, Rach went to Northern Ireland and Annie went to Suffolk. Rachel also celebrated her Birthday in Paris but most importantly the day was spent at Disneyland Paris how amazing! Rach also started a new job which she is loving and Annie ran a half marathon at the beginning of the month.

The summer months always get so busy and we have some exciting plans for May which we cannot wait to share with you over the next month. You can keep up with our whereabouts over on Instagram, Youtube and Twitter.

Assisted Squat Rack-  Recently we saw Tiffany Watson from MIC using the assisted squat rack in the gym to do a exercise we had never tried before. It inspired us to use the machine and as a result we ended up doing a full body workout on it! We have been loving it and boy could we feel the burn the next day. We will be posting the video on our Youtube channel soon!

Sugar free syrup in coffee shops– we have recently realised that Costa and Starbucks offer sugar free syrups! We don’t know how long they have been serving them but how did we not know about this before now? We are all for living a balanced lifestyle but we would much rather eat our calories than drink them and that is why we are opting for sugar free from now on.

London designer outlet- as you might have seen from our previous blog post or vlog we have been loving LDO! We spent the day there one Saturday and couldn’t wait to go back! We love to regularly update our active wear collection so the shops at LDO are perfect just for that!

Filming workout videos- we have had so much fun filming workout videos for our YouTube video recently! We meet up before work at the gym (6am are we mad?) to film videos especially for you guys! We have had a lot of fun mixing up our workouts and thinking of some fun and challenging exercises. So far we have posted; medicine ball workout, duo workout & full body workout.

The Good Guru- we have found a new favourite protein! We have sampled several of their proteins this month and they are so delicious. We especially love the individual packets as they are perfect to pack in your bag when going on holiday which as you know is something we love to do as often as possible. They also make vegan protein which is great for those that follow a vegan diet. We added the vanilla one to pancakes and also smoothie bowls. The Good Guru also make amazing porridge sachets with added protein and the berry one is a firm favourite that smells and tastes delicious.

Gato puddings- oh my gosh these puddings are DELICIOUS if you haven’t tried them already you need to! Rachel tasted them when she visited their stand at the Natural and Organic product show in London and she just had to introduce them to Annie. These puddings taste amazing served fresh from microwave and we loved all three flavours especially the chocolate and aubergine fondant & the orange and cardamon polenta sponge. They also have chocolate and coconut brownie too. Go check them out as they are perfect for dessert.

We cannot believe how quickly April has gone and that is is now so close to May! These months have been flying by and we guess its because we are working more and more on the blog and enjoying it more and more each day. We have mo specific plans for May apart from the fact that we have another bank holiday weekend which is always fab.
If you have any recommendations of places to go or things to do during May then let us know!

Vanilla protein pancakes with raspberry yoghurt and peanut butter

If you haven’t guessed already we basically had a pancake party on the Saturday morning before Pancake Day, except we were the only ones attending the party. It was great for us as it meant we got to eat all the pancakes until we were completely pancaked out (if that is even possible).

These vanilla protein pancakes with Peanut butter and raspberry taste absolutely incredible! They are the perfect breakfast choice and we thoroughly enjoyed them post the 8 mile run we did on Saturday morning.

Our protein of choice was the Whey Ahead vanilla sachet but you could in fact use any of their flavours using the recipe below. They have so many flavours e.g. toffee, cookie dough, banana, strawberry, chocolate orange and that is just naming a few.  We cannot wait to experiment and don’t worry they will be recipes to follow!

White Chocolate and Cranberry Protein Muffins

We love experimenting with protein powder with cooking. Sometimes we use unflavoured protein such as one from The Organic Protein Company, or we use vanilla protein powder. We are currently using vanilla whey protein from My Protein.

These white chocolate and cranberry protein muffins are quick and easy to make and taste delicious. Enjoy the recipe below:

Ingredients:

100g blended oat (or you can use oat flour, but we find it cheaper to just bend your own oats!)
100g plain yoghurt
40g whey protein (we used 20g sachet from The Organic Protein Company and 20g of vanilla whey from My Protein)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
50ml semi-skimmed milk or dairy free milk
1 packet of 45g dried cranberries
1 bar of white chocolate chopped into chunks, or white chocolate chips (we used Moo Free white chocolate)

Method:

Preheat the oven to 190 degree fan
Put the blended oats, baking powder and protein powder in a mixing bowl
Mix together the wet ingredients (yoghurt, egg and milk)
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix
The add the cranberries and white chocolate and mix
Spoon into large muffin cases then cook for 15 minutes in the oven
