7 Things We Have Learnt About Blogging

Wow we still cannot believe we have been blogging for two years now, the time has gone so quickly and we still think of ourselves as ‘new’ bloggers when in actual fact in the past two years we have learnt so much.

There is obviously so much more that we have to learn and we are by no means experts at all but we feel like newer bloggers may be interested in reading about what we have learnt and what we wished we knew when we first started out with our blog.

We recently reflected on our two years of blogging and celebrated our blogs birthday, is that really sad? Probably we made a cake and everything lol. We just wanted to celebrate the special occassion because our blog means so much to us, we would be lost without it. We genuinely cannot believe how quickly the past two years have gone it is like we have blinked and here we are.

Network- you have probably heard this one thousand times before but honestly network your little butt off. Talk to people when you attend events, get involved on twitter, read and comment on people’s blogs. Basically do whatever you can and feel comfortable doing but make sure you network with like minded people.

Join in twitter chats- We hadn’t even heard of a blogger chat when we first started blogging and it wasn’t until about a year into our blogging journey that we actually started to use Twitter properly, don’t ask us why we just didn’t know it was a place for bloggers to connect. Now we are on twitter every day and try and join in Twitter chats as often as we can, it’s a great way to meet other bloggers. If you can also try and host a twitter chat they are so much fun and also you can decide the topic so it’s a great way to learn new things that you perhaps didn’t know about previously.

Be active and post regularly- be as active as you can across all social media channels and your blog, it will pay off and you will find your stats are improving every day. Who ever said you should have a blog schedule is wrong and we don’t agree with this, post blogs whenever you want because the more you post the more traffic you are likely to drive. We like to connect with people on Instagram by commenting on photos and starting up conversations, it is harder to form relationships on Instagram than on Twitter but keep at it and you will get there!

Good quality- quality is definitely better than quantity in the blogging world. We have learnt to post photos that are of a higher quality, looking back at our earlier Instagram posts is actually hilarious, we have actually archived some now because they were so tragic.

Use hashtags on Instagram- okay so the algorithm may have reduced the impact the hashtags used to have but we definitely still think they help. Not only for receiving likes on Instagram but because people also search for hashtags that they are interested in. We always search for hashtags on Instagram e.g. ParisBrunch or LondonFitness as it helps us find new places to go and try especially when we are going on holiday.

Approach brands- don’t be afraid to approach brands that you want to work with, we have approached so many brands in the past two years and although some may have turned us down because we don’t have over 10,000 followers others have given us so many opportunities.

Don’t say yes to everything- it can be hard at first to say yes to everything because as soon as opportunities come your way you don’t want to say no. If something doesn’t fit the direction you are going in or agree with then just say no. We have had a few brands contact us about detox teas etc. which isn’t something we agree with or want to share with our followers. Saying no doesn’t make you ungrateful for the opportunity it just means you are available to put more time and effort into things that you actually want to do with your blog.

Blogging As A Pair

We take our hats off to those of you who blog on your own, how do you do it? There is always so much to get done and things to tick off that never ending to do list. We constantly feel snowed under with the amount of work we have to do and there is two of us to share the load.

When we first started blogging we would never have guessed what it would really entail and how much goes on ‘behind the scenes’. We spend every spare moment on our blog which we love doing and wouldn’t change it for the world. We come home from work only to start work all over again, this time doing something we are so unbelievably passionate about.

A blogger never really stops working, although we don’t always think of it as working because we love what we do but It’s nice to work together at the weekends. We can bake, attend events, write posts, have admin evenings, workout together, photoshoots, film YouTube videos and the list goes on. We can imagine this could become quite lonely being a solo blogger and we can really see why it is so important to mix with other bloggers and make blogging friends because like some of your other friends that don’t blog they will ‘get it’.

We take our hats off to those bloggers who attend events alone it must literally be terrifying. We have been lucky enough to be able to attend events together because otherwise we still probably wouldn’t have been to one yet! We can imagine it’s like all things though the more you go to them the easier it becomes and the more bloggers you get to know. It can be hard to sometimes juggle our calendars around one an another and sometimes we have to miss really good events if one of us is busy but that’s life and we blog as a pair so want to attend events as a pair.

We both have our own jobs with the blog for example Annie edits the photos and Rach edits the vlogs. If we didn’t have our own responsibilities thing would be chaotic. We haven’t necessarily split out all aspects of our blog like emails some things we both chip in on to make sure we are both in the know.

People always asks us who writes the blogs and how do you choose which one of you is going to? We both write the blogs and at times one of us may write more than the other but it always evens out. We always make sure we read each others blog posts as we think it’s important to have a fresh pair of eyes read over the post before we schedule it to go live.

We love blogging as a pair, we support each other daily. We encourage one another to step outside of our comfort zones daily and say yes to things we would usually shy away from. One of our favourite parts about blogging together is the fact we get to enjoy this incredible journey together. Things surprise us everyday in this crazy blogging world and we are just happy we have one another to experience it with.

Our love for Blogging

image-4We started our blog over a year ago in October 2015 but never really posted anything regularly. We were new to the blogging scene and didn’t really know what we were doing. We would write posts about fitness, travel and food as this is what we were and still are passionate about.

One evening we decided to have a blogging evening and decided we wanted to up our game. Firstly we knew we had to change the design of our blog as we were really unhappy with the way it looked. We did some research on how we could change the design on WordPress and finally found one we were happy with. We also knew we had to pay for a domain as we didn’t want www.threebrits.wordpress.com any longer, I mean no one was going to take us seriously with a URL like that. We had such a productive evening and it got us excited for the months ahead! We Planned so many blog posts that evening so we knew the direction we were heading.

Instagram has always been our favourite social media platform, we love taking photos and could scroll though our insta feed for hours at a time. When we first set up our blog In October 2015 we focused a lot of our time on Instagram and definitely neglected Twitter. Some people might find this odd, because now we have been blogging for a while we have realised that Instagram is the hardest place to get followers! Its all a learning curve though right!?

We didn’t really know what to use Twitter for, we connected our blog to twitter and tweeted the odd tweet but that was as a far as we went. One evening we came across something called a Twitter chat and decided to join in and it’s safe to say we have never looked back! Everyone we have spoken to on Twitter has been so supportive. The blogging community has some of the most positive, professional and humble people we have ever spoken to and they have encouraged us to make decisions we would never have made before hand.

Twitter chats are great, and we look forward to joining in on them in the evening (they are usually between 6-9pm GMT) and meeting new bloggers and finding blogs to follow. We really enjoy the Sunday chats, the perfect end to the weekend. A couple of weeks ago we held our first twitter chat, it was so much fun an we cannot wait to do another one.

Last December we decided to bite the bulett and share our blog with our family and friends on Facebook something we had never done before. We were embarrassed and scared to share our blog with people we knew and we don’t really know why. We love our blog we talk about it and work on it all the time so we don’t know why we were so scared to share it with people. When we did finally share it on Facebook we were so overwhelmed with the support we got especially from people we hadn’t seen or spoken to in years.

Some people would probably think we are mad for getting up at god knows what time on a Saturday morning for photoshoots in the freezing cold or spending our Friday evenings baking instead of going out and drinking.

We honestly don’t know what we would do without our blog, it is a hobby that we have fallen in love with and have so much planned for the future.
