Buns & Buns Covent Garden

We were invited to visit Buns & Buns in Covent Garden and had the most amazing time, not only was the food delicious, the service was top notch and the atmosphere was lovely too!

Located right in the middle of Covent Garden, Buns & Buns could not be in a more perfect location. The inside is so nice with lots of copper and lovely marble tables we were in heaven, not to mention the open kitchen too!

Buns & Buns are all about ‘bringing bread back to the table’ so all their dishes are paired with bread or buns from around the world, they believe that ‘bread is life’ and to be honest we couldn’t agree more (we LOVE bread!)

We both decided we had to have one of their alcoholic beverages after seeing other diners drinks, they just looked so pretty! Rach opted for the Raspberry Wine Spritzer and Annie went for the Mandarin Spritz (basically Aperol Spritz but with added mandarin juice!) – they were both super pretty and the orange and pink made a perfect photo!

We then decided to (of course!) share a couple of the starters, it was hard to choose what to have so the best option was the share. We went for the, hummus & tatzihki foccacia, corn fritters and pork belly bun.

The pork belly bun stole the show for us, it was the first time for both of us trying a bao which is a chinese steamed bun and we opted for the classic one with pork. We really have to return to try the chilli prawn one now!

The fritters were also really delicious we didn’t really know what to expect when we ordered this dish but thought it was worth a try! They were small pieces of beer battered sweetcorn and it was served with a wedge of lime and aioli! The lime was the perfect addition and we are so glad we squeezed it on top! We didn’t really eat the aioli as we aren’t massive garlic lovers. We would definitely recommend the dish and it is perfect to share.

The hummus and tatzihnki came with a generous amount of bread and we also really enjoyed the tomato salsa it reminded us of being on holiday in Spain eating tomato bread! We love hummus so we knew we would love this dish so if you like us are a hummus fan then you can’t go wrong with this choice!

For the main we ordered two dishes to share of course! We went for the clay oven pizza that was topped with Burrata, San Daniele Ham, Datterini tomatoes & Fior Di latte cheese. It was really delicious and so filling that we actually couldn’t finish it all! If you are going for the pizza was main make sure you have room for it! We think it would also be the perfect sharing starter.

We also ordered the Organic Rotisserie Chicken which is marinated with yoghurt and lime. It is served with chicken gravy, roasted carrots, broccoli & sourdough (of course)! We did enjoy the chicken it was incredibly flavoursome but we must admit it did have a bit too much butter on for us!

For dessert on the menu we were only able to see the cheesecake but our waiter very kindly told us that there were a couple of other options! We went for these delicious donut like desserts that were filled with chocolate sauce of vanilla cream! They were soooo delicious and we loved the cinnamon taste of the donuts, we would 100% recommend you ordering them!

We loved that so many of the dishes were made for sharing. We love sharing dishes when we go out for dinner because it means we get to try so much more! If you visit we would definitely recommend ordering all of the sharing dishes!

We had the most fabulous evening at Buns & Buns and we left with massive smiles on our faces. We will definitely be returning again soon and we think you should as well!

Camile Restaurant Review

Camile is a healthy authentic Thai restaurant serving delicious good quality Thai dishes. They first opened their doors in Belfast. Camile has since opened four branches in London one in Tooting Broadway, Clapham Common, Battersea & Bermondsey.

We visited the Clapham Common branch on Abbeville Road one Sunday afternoon. It was a lovely change tucking into a Thai instead of the more traditional roast dinner.

Camile Thai

The manager of the Camile restaurant in Clapham was incredibly welcoming and made us feel super welcome. There were a couple of other customers in the restaurant but on the whole it was fairly quiet.

To start we ordered the shareable Tiffin Box for two (which is a customers favourite). We seem to be ordering sharing platters more and more recently but it just means we get to try a lot more in one go and not order lots of dishes and waste food.

Camile Thai

On the Camile sharing platter there was four spring rolls. Two of the spring rolls were vegetarian and the other two were meat there was also chicken satay which was served with a delicious peanut dipping sauce that we absolutely loved. We also tucked into some chicken wings as well which were full of flavour. We loved this starter and really cannot recommend it enough if you visit Camile.

For the main course we ordered two curries the first one was a Chicken Massaman which is a mild and rich curry with potato, onion and crispy shallots. We absolutely loved this curry and we really enjoyed the potatoes as we haven’t had a Thai curry with potato in it before.

The second curry we ordered was a Red Chicken Curry with green beans, squash, onion and red chilli. This one was slightly hotter due to the chilli but was incredible and once again bursting with flavour.

We also had a side of brown rice which we absolutely loved and since then have been ordering brown rice instead of sticky rice.

The portion sizes of both the curries was incredibly generous, we couldn’t finish what was on our plates so we kindly asked them if we could take the rest away. Rach enjoyed the left overs the next day for her dinner!

Camile Thai

Something that we particularly loved at Camile was the fact the food wasn’t oily and greasy. It really did taste like a curry you would cook at home but obviously a thousand times better!

Camile are planning on opening more restaurants in London very soon and hopefully some a little more central, so keep your eyes peeled! We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Emilia’s Crafted Pasta

**Warning, this post will leave you hungry and craving Italian food!!!*

At this early dinner or late lunch (we ate at 3.30pm so you decide….!!), we both agreed that Italian food is our favourite cuisine to have at a restaurant which was excellent as we were both about to tuck in to the most incredible Italian meal.

Located in St Katerine Dock overlooking the Marina is this small Italian restaurant, we were fortunate enough to visit on the most gorgeous Autumn Day and it was warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the amazing view whilst also people watching.

Emilia’s seats roughly 35 people, they specialise in making handmade pasta that is made fresh each morning, the recipes are created and cooked right in front of you, which we absolutely loved.

We asked if it would be possible to sit outside seeing as it was such a beautiful day. We had a small wait for a table which was fine as we sat on the bar stalls and watched the chefs hard at work.

Shortly after we were shown to our table which overlooked the docks, it was stunning. We both ordered a drink Rach went for a glass of prosecco and Annie had an Aperol Spritz, which we enjoyed in the sunshine whilst admiring the view.

Now lets cut to the food which is what you all came here for. The menu is simple which is what we like because it makes choosing not as difficult, we always think that is a sign of a good restaurant. The menus were printed on brown paper and doubled up as place mats which is a great idea. Everything on the menu had our mouths watering and we really were spoilt for choice.

Burrata is Rach’s all time favourite thing so of course she opted for the Burrata for starter, which was served with toasted ciabatta and was INCREDIBLE. It was creamy and delicious and had such a great flavour, it was utterly delicious.

Annie ordered finely sliced bresaola (cured beef) with rocket and parmesan salad there was also the option to have it with   toasted ciabatta instead of the salad. Bresaola for anyone that doesn’t know is air-dried, salted beef that is usually aged for two or three months until it becomes hard and turns dark red in colour. Parmesan is my favourite cheese so I had to order the salad of course and I was delighted when it was served with a very generous portion.

There are six different types of pasta on the menu; Potato Gnocchi (occasionally available), Bucatini, Ravioli, Rigatoni, Pappardelle and Casarecce. There are seven pasta dishes to choose from each of which is created using of the pasta options above.

We both ordered 4 hour slow cooked béchamel bolognese with grated parmesan which was a Pappardelle dish. pappadelle pasta is a thick pasta and the flavours of it were incredible. The portion size was huge and pasta is so filling! Thankfully they have doggy bags so you can take what you cannot manage home with you.

Toilets are located outside of the restaurant, they are public toilets that most the little restaurants shared. They are clean and we had no issue with this at all- means there is more space to seat guests!

The staff at Emilia’s were really attentive and so friendly! We couldn’t have asked for a better waiter/waitress they were both so happy and polite.

We had the most incredible time and we will definitely be returning again! It was just the most perfect afternoon and we couldn’t have asked for better food!

Spanish Sidra Avalon & Tapas @ Camino

We visited Camino a Tapas restaurant to try out their new Spanish Sidra Avalon which we were really excited about! When we go out for dinner we will most likely also have a nice alcoholic beverage with our meal too. We aren’t really fussy drinkers and will often drink something that compliments the food we have ordered.

Camino Kings Cross was hidden out of the way from the high street but close enough to the station if you wanted a pre train meal. We also commented it would be a great place to go for a date as it was the perfect atmosphere.

It was a beautiful day and the sun was shining and we were really craving a refreshing drink in the sunshine. The Spanish Sidra Avalon is on draught in the four incredible Camino venues across London.

Avalon is a refreshing, crisp Sidra with clean aromas of summer orchard and hints of applewood. A pale colour, the delicious ripple has a slow release of fine bubbles. It was delicious and wasn’t too heavy.

The nice thing about going out for tapas is that you get to try and eat a large range of dishes, this makes eating tapas much more exciting and means when with a group everyone will be happy. However with such a large selection of food how can you decide what to drink, however the good thing about this Spanish Sidra Avalon is that its super light and therefore will go with any food your order off the menu.

The staff at Camino were very polite and helpful when we asked them to recommend dishes that went well with the new Sidra Avalon.

There is literally so much choice on the menu and its split up in sections, fish & seafood, meat, nibbles, vegetarian etc so its easy to pick what you want. We went for jamon serrano, potatas bravas, iberico meatballs, chicken skewer and arzua ulloa. Basically we ordered in the same order, slices of serrano ham, potatoes covered in tomato sauce, meatballs, chicken skewers and fried cheese with chutney jam. We definitely ordered the perfect amount of food for the 2 of us and a good selection of meat and vegetables.

The food was served as and when it was cooked as all dishes are freshly prepared. Being typical bloggers who wanted to photograph the food we were waiting to tuck in as we wanted to photograph all the dishes together. The Waitress spotted that we were not eating the food and said she could bring us out fresh dishes if we wanted, it was not her fault and we didn’t want the food to go to waste so we declined the offer but it was lovely of her to offer.

There are 5 Camino Tapas restaurants in London; Kings Cross x2, Bankside, Monument and Shoreditch.

There was an outside seating area at the Kings Cross branch which we were very happy about as it was a beautiful day. We also spotted the bar garden around the back which was for drinks only and that was in the sunshine.

The Avalon draught is gluten free and has an ABB of 5.5%!

We had a fab afternoon and we will definitely be visiting Camino again and drinking Sidra Avalon!
